Hi all, need advise-i have an '87 talbot express based a class with a grossly underpowered 2.5 diesel :shout:.Having trouble locating a turbodiesel version,so been looking to fit a 1.9 xud turbo which has 38% more torque than mine and 80% more bhp! But... will fit my gearbox? PLEASE help!! keith.
You might also need to look at Beefing up other bits if you change to a more torquey/powerful engine, as the transmission would have not been designed to take it.
the casting/bell housing will be a different shape and the ratio's would be completely different in your box to the newer one and as steve said you will be putting a lot more load on the box than it was designed for.
the only other option would be to change both engine and box but then you have the problem of different driveshafts ect and the new engine will probably be ECU controlled so would need all the associated electronics that go with it.
you could try an aftermarket turbo conversion for your existing engine.
We have sat in our garage a peugot 2.5 turbo diesel engine which we were going to put into our Land liner, but we swapped the motorhome, so the engine is still here.
I dont know much about it but Mick will be home about 4.30pm if you want to PM him.
