Hi guys, We purchased our new Roller Team T-line 590 motorhome in September.
This is our first motorhome so all new to us, We are enjoying it very much and have been
having fun kitting it out ready for next year, I am retiring from work in March.

The only problem with it is the EML light keeps coming on, the first time was about 3 weeks
after purchase and was cleared by our dealer now last Wednesday it came on again !
Its going back to the dealer again next week, Its spoiling our experience with this new venture
and my dealer is about 50 miles away so its not very convenient.

They keep telling me its nothing to worry about but I am getting concerned, How many times do
I let them try to cure it before possibly rejecting the vehicle as not fit for purpose.

Any ideas or suggestions as to what it could be or what to do with the dealer ?

Best regards Mike & Marion

Hi Mike & Marion.
If you Google EML warning light, you will read the list of probable causes, which are usually down to emission control failure such as a duff sensor, or blocked EGR valve. If you take it a Fiat Professional Garage, not your dealer, (assuming its a Fiat that you have), they will diagnose the fault properly, and replace the faulty part under warranty.Find out your nearest one and give them a call to put your mind at rest.
Simply resetting it is not going to stop the problem, its giving the warning for a reason, its just needs fault finding by someone that knows what they are doing.
No real reason to reject the van, if you get it fixed properly all should be fine.
Good luck

Thanks Les for your help, there's a Fiat Professional workshop in Exeter which is about 12 miles from me, will give them a call tomorrow.

Hi Mike, do you have any engine hesitation during the first few minutes after start-up; i.e. during the initial fuel map phase.

Andrew

No Andrew its performs fine at all times ! Its only done 200 miles from new, But the fuel consumption seems
heavy at 20 MPG is this about right ?

Thanks Mike. The fuel consumption is a wee bit low IMO. It will take a few thousand miles to loosen up but 20mpg is not great. Do you have a 130, 150 or 180BHP engine.

If the EMIL light has pinged then the ECU should store the fault codes.

That said, there have been numerous EMIL issues including mice in the air intake system, to EGR/fuel issues to mice chewing wires in the various looms etc.

Do you know how long the van was stored on the dealer forecourt before you bought it (and where it was stored too).

Good luck with your local Fiat Professional garage in getting back to you having used their "on-line booking system". You get a "no Reply" email stating that someone will be in touch shortly....but that never happens:(.
I phoned the second nearest FP service centre to me last week only to be told that their "Fiat" guy had left (as they are VW/Vauxhall dealers as well), and they were trying hard to replace him:eek:
The nearest dealer to me is in Guildford and they do lorries, coaches, and large vans, but they have not returned the request for an appointment, so will have to call them tomorrow.
Shame as I didn't like the lack of service I received before from The Guildford Branch before on a Fiat recall , and I also didn't feel happy about leaving my van parked in amongst so many dirty great lorries.
As said earlier your problem should be easily found, and hopefully rectified under warranty, its just getting it booked in that might prove challenging.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.
Les

I had problems with my engine warning light coming on and staying on. After detailed fault finding my garage diagnosed that the DPF switch that controls the DPF was faulty. They replaced it and its now ok. It did come on a few months ago but I increased the revs to 3500 for 20 mins and it went ok. I have always tended to drive economically in low revs but have been told that can cause the problems. The mechanic dealing with the van also has a motorhome and he tells me that every 1000 miles he goes into a lower gear and revs it up for 20 mins.

We got 32mpg on our trip home from the dealer, Ours is an extra high top so is slightly higher than yours.

20mpg would indicate something is wrong to me.

Always good to have feedback. It sounds like an easy fix but good luck regardless Mike (y)

All the best,

Andrew

That's very good - our 130Bhp achieved 25mpg on the motorway from the dealer and the last one (150bhp) was 27mpg.

I'm hoping for more on the next collection this month.

On the 2 occasions I have picked a brand new motorhome up from the dealers the only warning light that's already
lit is the low fuel warning light. You spend all that money with them and the tight buggers won't put any fuel in.:(

Thanks again guys for all the help. Will keep you updated on my progress.
I hope the fuel consumption improves once it's got a few more miles on the clock.

Any vehicle service workshop should be able to decode your fault for you so you could go locally. Problem is they will charge you for the privilege. Check if the Fiat agent will also charge, if so you could save the diesel by staying local. At least you will know what the problem is and act appropriately on it. Strange that your dealer even cleared the fault light without telling you the reported fault. Mike

Search on here for OBD2 Reader. Costs little, plug in, read fault code then say to dealer "stop BS me you pesky dealer this is wrong, now fix it promptly my good man".

No warranty issues, you just plug in, read, look up code on internet, unplug. Harmless.

Just a thought, have you checked to see if there is a recall notice? Checked mine upon getting it home from the dealer, and was appalled to find it had one on it. www.fiatcamper.com input chassis number.

Aldi were selling them a week or so ago, about £7.50

£14.99 actually and it works well. I bought one to keep in the camper.
There is a lot more to it than just reading a code and then changing a part though, the actual fault code could be caused by less obvious issues than the code suggests. For example a code for a lambda sensor could be caused by a faulty lambda sensor, or it could be a faulty mat sensor causing the fuelling to be wrong and therefore throwing the lambda sensors readings off.
