Hi does anyone use an electric blanket with a memory foam mattress or is it not recommended ,as going away soon and wondering whether to take it with us in case it gets cold .

If you like a nice warm bed and you are going to be on EHU, then why not? You can always leave it turned off if too warm.

I don’t see why they would be dangerous altho I wouldn’t leave it on whilst away from van and I wouldn’t leave it on all night.
I would use it to warm the bed then turn off once in bed, but that’s just me-I don’t like a hot bed!

We are users of electric blankets in the mh. Just bought a couple of new ones as the new to us van has single beds. I have measured their power consumption. 46w on highest setting and just 11w on the lowest so easily run off the tiniest inverter if off grid.

I have an electric blanket at home which is made up of a nice snuggly 'micro teddy bear' top and a memory foam base with the 'wires' sandwiched in between so I can't think of any problem with putting one on a memory foam mattress.

If you use with a memory mattress it will effect the working of the mattress
As they work off you body heated to mould to you

But not a problem if you use an electric over-blanket.

We have a duck down duvet, very light, very warm and very expensive. Really is very warm in cold weather. You could also throw in a couple of hot water bottles to warm the mattress before jumping in.

I’m sure we read your couldn’t with our memory foam mattress topper. We’ve got rid of it now though …

We’ve always had webasto diesel heating in the motorhome , so have no need. Not the old noisy stinky type people complain about.
We’re Toasty warm and no cold spots anywhere in the van.
Radiators and log burner at home so no need there either .

Years ago when Memory foam was first used for mattress toppers the foam makers Vitafoam warned to air the foam for a few days and have no ‘direct’ heat on it. This was because the foam gave off a gas of some description, which stopped after 3 or 4 days of air getting to it.
I think the issue was resolved by covering the foam in a proper cloth case and sheets, which separate the heat, whether electric blanket or Hot water bottle, away from the foam, so as long as your topper is not brand new and its covered you should be fine.

When ever we buy anything with Memory foam we still air them to this day.

I thought about that too, I've got a 12v one for the MH for if it's cold when we're travelling but there are lots of mains powered electric fleeces/throws to choose from, the bonus is that they can be used during the day when sitting in a chair rather than just being on the bed however they are not meant to be slept on so must never ever be used as an underblanket, I wouldn't advise leaving one turned on when in bed either in case rolling over and getting it underneath your body causes as issue.

Never found a foam mattress to be cold. With the right bedding you shouldn’t need one. Better with bed socks and a woolly hat if your cold 🥶
