Ok another question for you please.

Looking at all the completed listings of what MH have or they have not sold for, do you think that the ones that have many bids on them that the people bidding have actually viewed the MH or do they just take a punt and hope the advert is a true reflection of the MH.

When they say it is water tight and 100% everything working etc, are people believing this and bid or buy or are they lucky enough that the MH is near them and can view it first.

Theres a lovely Hymer with a cab on for under 7k which is lovely

If I was looking now, i'd love this one, the write up is glowing and I would believe it as it sounds very genuine, would I be foolish to believe it

Personally ,If I was interested in a motorhome, car can boat on any sight I would ask as many questions to the poster ,as possible then make a decision to go see it,or if you know someone who can view on your behalf .Before putting in any bid.
But wouldn't bid blind.

Just saying.........

I don't think the ebay ad is correct re,engine size as that van is a 2500 cc engine also its an import I think as its a 1990 model but not registered until 2006 so missing 16 years but it does look quite tidy and the price is low .

We'll.......we bought Winnie blind....but got so many photos and measurements first. Felt we couldn't really go wrong at £3500 and she was in Spain at the time...... Wouldn't do it for a more expensive one though.

I've just looked at AA vehicle checks and they don't cover anything over 15yrs old, as we are not mechanically minded, who would we ask to do a check?

Ah I wouldn't have spotted that, but when we are looking seriously next year, that is the sort of add that would catch my eye, thank you x

For that money you could put an offer on it, should it not be as described then walk away, i would however be concerned as to the recent cab repaint, these are notorious for rot particularly the wings and around the windscreen.

So whatever I think is genuine and glowing, I need to get myself on here for a reality check :roflmto::roflmto::roflmto::roflmto:

I'm so gullible and believe people , just wait until I'm looking to buy, you'll be sick of me, thank you x

Where do you find these people please?

http://www.approvedworkshops.co.uk/find-approved-workshop

In theory you could find a local engineer, ask them to arrange a date / time with the seller.
You pay them and ask they only sent YOU the report plus any comments.. If all good then you know where you stand but if there is an issue you have maybe only lost £100 -£150 ish.. Or if its not that bad come to a discount deal for work needed.

Never stop learning 😊
As the reg number is clearly visible I would go onto the DVLA website and see what is listed. I think you need the VIN number to get full MOT information (with advisories) but if the seller is genuine, you could write and ask for that - explaining why you want it. If they baulk, hedge or come up with any sort of excuse then run away, run very fast!

Personally, there is no bargepole long enough to encourage me to buy a vehicle via eBay, but that is just my opinion, nothing more than that - opinion.

Have you looked on AutoTrader?

Its up to the seller to not be misleading as if its not as advertised you can walk away , never hand over any money untill you have seen it , dont bother with the ones that want money down as deposit . The gen sellers will be happy that you will complete when you see its as desc. that will save you having to do two trips if its a long way off . If you dont have the expertise then make sure you have access to someone who has to do the examination part .
I have wasted a few hundred miles , some hours , and a few pounds in expenses ,on bad ones , only two out of probably more than twenty vehicles , but had some fantastic bargains a well .

Why do you say its not registered till 2006 this Broken Link Removed says 1990 the mileage does jump about a bit on the MOT history though.

I sold a motorhome by auction on Ebay. I needed to rid it before getting a replacement and didn't have the space for two. I had over 1,000 watchers, but that was all they did. Only two serious bidders and no reserve. I had expected more. It was a nail-biting experience and one I would not be in a hurry to repeat. The bidding only rose to a sensible level in the last few moments. A dealer bought it, unseen, and was very happy with it. I got the impression that he'd have walked away if it hadn't been as described. Classified is a more comfortable way, but you're never sure when it'll go.

I never bid on auctions till the last ten seconds, miss quite a few but know you are not being run up by one of his mates.

I went to Stallybridge to view a Volvo V70 advertised on eBay by a reputable dealer in sports cars and recent 4x4s (long time ago and name escapes me).
Advertised as top of range with many extras and the price sounded about right.
They wanted a £200 refundable holding deposit which I paid.
When we got there the car was a standard base/entry model V70 and a wreck.
Torn seats, dented and scratched bodywork, VERY dirty carpets and greasy headliner, load area littered with used spare parts, radio thrown on back seat, none of the listed extras and hadn't seen a wash bucket or Hoover for years and I'm sure their guard dog was living in it.
I offered £300 and he genuinely looked shocked.
They'd simply copied the official spec of the model they tried to sell it as.
Got my £200 back with no problem and a ride in an almost new BMW X5 back to the train station.
As I expected driving it home I had transfered my current insurance to it and bought two one way saver rail tickets...£17 each.
Then had to buy two one way tickets back to Scarborough at the station...£50 each....and pay again to transfer insurance back.
An expensive lesson learnt buying unseen from ebay.
The next V70 on eBay was in the Midlands and I bought it on the spot......after going to see it.

The recorded mileage at several M.O.T.'s, ignoring km / miles conversion is very odd indeed :

Date tested 17 October 2006
Fail
Mileage 252,216 km
MOT test number

Date tested 20 March 2008
Pass
Mileage 44,069 km
MOT test number 1337 1088 8494

Date tested 6 April 2011
Pass
Mileage 153,309 km
MOT test number 8961 7659 1048

Barge pole & not touch with are words that spring to mind.

Before we get excited no one on here is actually buying this motor but the milage on a motor this old is neither here or there it is nearly thirty years old it could have had numerous engines and stuff but its the state it is actuality in now that counts.

Of course you are right but it gives a good idea as to the information that is out there for anybody who didn't realise it was there.
