DVLA - Trying to get rid of older drivers?

All this talk of some groups of drivers being better than others, well I haven't driven professionally for about 10 yrs but I find I still follow some drivers and can tell you where they are going to go before they even signel their intentions it's called experience, a lot of drivers are looking about 20 or so feet in front their vehicles so they don't notice what is happening 2 or 3 hundred yds up the road and a lot of people drive aggressively rather than defensively I tend to take the view that everyone else on the road is likely to do anything without telling you first so beware out there music on full blast texting or talking on the phone they are tearing about around you prepare to take avoiding action

You sound like an old time truck driver like myself,,,I can tell what the car driver in front is going to do just by their body language,,,Its down to years and miles of experience plus CONCENTRATING all of the time,,,,BUSBY,,:)

That's the whole point of the regulation. The worst drivers must fit an audible warning device such as extremely loud bass boomer speakers, in antiphase so they only sound outside the vehicle. They must have distinctive warning stripes, and the very worst must fit lowered suspension to make safe driving on normal roads at high speed impossible.

And don't forget that audible device that comes in when they change gear that sounds a bit like a turbo,,,,,What a waste of money,,,but i wonder how many notify their insurance of these mods,,BUSBY,,

The most useful module that I took on the cpc was the defensive driving/awareness one. we had to dive a fully loaded 44 tonne artic from Eye airfield down the A140 to the A14 and back without using the brakes at all. Only allowed to used gearbox (auto) and exhaust brake in conjunction with cruise control. Got marked by telematics on return and it was a real eye opener. These youngsters should have to do some of their test without touching the brakes and that would sort them out.

There is a family up the road from us and their two sons have golfs, lowered suspicion big wheels big exhaust I can hear them when they leave their drive there is this grinding noise when they go off the kerb , the bodywork is about 2 inches off the ground. How they get on with speed bumps god knows, to me they sound like a couple of old vans but they seem to like it and yes Busby about 24 yrs hgv's then worked on docks so saw both sides

I think if you want better hgv drivers on the roads then traffic operators should have to have been drivers first so they know the difficulties because some of the so called traffic ops I came across about 19 yrs old "I know it all " used to look at a map and think " oh it's only a few inches away should take you about half an hr to get there " yea right

Hardly any brakes at all on pre plated (pre1969) trucks if fitted with hydra vac or air over hydraulic,,,,made you very very aware when you knew you could not stop to order,,soon found out the best way to avoid collisions was the steering wheel,,,BUSBY,,
