My VED expires on 31st December.

I did the renewal on 6th December from 1st January 2020 to 31sr Dec 2020.

I received a confirmation of renewal, which shows the date I did it and period of 12 months, but does not show the period for which the 12 months applies, so anyone wishing to see my confirmation could assume it runs for 12 months from renewal date 6th Dec, but not from 1st Jan.

My last renewal confirmation did show it running from 1st Jan 2019

The online information shows next renewal correctly as 1st Jan 2021.

But why, oh why, do they keeep making mistakes like this?

Geoff

the paperwork is just a confirmation that you renewed, it has the same importance as the new mot paperwork........absolutely zero
anybody who needs to check it, for whatever reason, will do it online

Equally, I don't understand your logic in loaning the DVLA the money for 3 weeks? They probably have more money than you :xgrin:

Mick
At least the treasury has. DVLA are only revenue collectors for HMRC.

I think there are police and other authorities in many countries who do not have that ability on the street.

At least the MOT certificate, if issued, administered by DVSA comes out with the right dates.

Don't think it's they,,think is the computers..BUSBY.

Can't blame a computer for the simple mistake of Shit in = Shit out.

It's the person pressing the keys that makes the mistakes.
presume its an automated system but not bug free

Any One know why Errors on/in Programs etc; are referred to as "Bugs".?

I Understand, that an early day computer, blew up, when they looked inside, they found?. A Bug or Moth had actually landed on 2 terminals and shorted it out, causing the failure.

10 minutes on microsoft word and you could have both the mot and ved paperwork stating any date and reg you want

I very much doubt the Police in another country will be the slightest bit interested in whether you have paid your UK VED. I am not even sure our Police are that interested.

Yes, and the confirmation that you request is not intended to be proof that the vehicle is taxed. It is a confirmation that you have made an online transaction intended for your own records. In the event that you find the vehicle record hasn't been updated to show that it is taxed, or you receive a penalty or other correspondence for failure to tax or SORN, the 16 digit reference number on the confirmation allows DVLA to trace the online transaction. It's of absolutely no value to anyone else.

I have just had a look at the last email confirmation I received about vehicle tax and I think they have very deliberately left off the the 12 month period it applies to. It is only an acknowledgement that you did make a payment. They probably don’t want people waving them at officials claiming their car is taxed when it is not. You might have susequently SORNED the vehicle and received a refund. The only record that matters is the current recorded status not what you did weeks or months earlier.

I've gone back several years through the confirmation emails that I requested each year for our three vehicles. None of the confirmation emails that I requested by consciously selecting the appropriate box during the online application process show the start date of the new tax application. The only documents that show it are where I have instead printed off a copy of the payment summary screen as shown in the web browser window.

Unsurprisingly, the number of untaxed vehicles has trebled since tax discs were scrapped in 2014, according to the latest data from the Department for Transport.

I think it's the same with lapsed monthly paid insurance policies.

It will show AFTER the 1/1/2020 if it showed before then you would not be caught without any VED as it would show as taxed. look again on the 2/1/2020
