just been asked the question by other half can you drink the water straight from the tank or would it be better to use bottle water for making tea /coffee or just get a container and fill it up from fresh water tap , your views please.

We use bottled water for drinking tea, etc.......actually water from an old plastic milk carton as opposed to ‘bought’ bottled! I wouldn’t drink water straight from the ‘van tank as it may not be ‘fresh’......

We keep a bottle of water in the fridge for taking our tablets but any other water we need for brews ect comes from the tank.
We have only had a problem with water from the tank when we first got the van. After it had been stood for nine months the dealer didn’t flush the tank.It smelled fusty and the tea tasted yuk. After a couple of flush outs with tank cleaner it has been ok since.
Management usually checks the water before I fill the tank, she has a better sense of taste than me.

We are all different are we not, we much prefer to buy bottled water for drinking, I was never happy when we originally used tank water and my stomach tends to be of a delicate nature

We use straight from the tank too.Drain down in winter, otherwise leave it alone. Not caused any problems. Stomachs contain acid for a reason!

Water from the tank for coffee machine, kettle and cooking. Bottled water for drinking same at home.

We carry a 5 litre cider container and fill it fresh every day for drinking water and tea coffee. Water in the tank can get unpleasantly warm when travelling in hot countries and I have had black bits growing in it.

May I ask where you fill your container from for fresh water every day, most of our stays are wilding.
Thanks.

If you're going to boil it, it doesn't matter at all. Lots of people also drink cold water from the tank, which is OK, provided you occasionally sterilise it. We've always had a separate 5L bottle for drinking water. It just means that we can be lazy with sterilisation and it pours much quicker than the tap!

In my previous van I had 'NaturePure' filter fitted. You could, I am told, drink water from a mud puddle and it would be sweet as you like. Cannot justify the cost now as we happily drink tea, coffee etc boiled but prefer beer cold.

Water is water

If wilding one night we usually have enough to last, we tend to stay on aires/stellplatz or CLs in between.

Tank water is perfectly safe to drink providing its not left standing too long, best not to leave more than 5 days before refilling.
Sometimes get a tast in tea normally due minerals in the water reacting with the plastics it's harmless.

We drink from the tank used to use a jug filters to get rid of the odd tast you sometimes get. Now have an Econo filter inline with the kitchen tap, change the filter in it once a year cost 7 quid for filter.

Tank water for tea and coffee machine and teeth brushing etc. We do use bottled for drinking / juice etc only because we prefer fizzy water. Once we blamed the vile tasting tea on our newly filled tank, until we noticed the collapsible kettle liner had cracked and we could taste the silicone.

We drink from the tank. It gets sterilised once or twice per year, and as we tend not to use site facilities we probably get through it within 3 days and always drain down at the end of every trip. We're also picky with where/how we fill.

I've been thinking about getting some sort of water filter for about 10 years - might get round to getting one eventually 🤔😆

Hi

“Ice and a Slice?”

I’m glad you ask.

I flush and clean the tanks a lot as we use it for cooking.

For drinking, we take a separate 25 litre tank of home filtered water for consumption and tooth brushing.
When that’s finished, we buy bottled if we are unsure of its source.

I am the same on ferries, aircraft and pubs, bars with water and ice.

Ive seen too many shitty toilet cassettes shoves up drinking water taps and gunked up ice makers.

PS: photo of ice maker, zoom in. It’s in a well known pub chain. Worse still, it’s situated in a cupboard next to the gents toilet.

We use a Brita filter jug for drinking water.
The water from the tank is fine but occasionally slightly flavoured depending on source and the Brita sorts it.

Maybe if you're travelling abroad there's more cons than pros for drinking tank water.
That's from info picked up on this forum on past discussions.

Then owners add water filters or use bottled water.

We haven't left the UK with our motorhome.
When we rented abroad we also drank from tank but we didn't have this MHF resource. Or get sick, tbf.
YMMV

Get a Britta jug with filter.
You can fill it up from the tap via your tank or take the jug directly to the tap on site and fill it up.
Either way, it will taste better than the water from the tap at home.
Supermarkets usually do deals on the jug as they will make money on the filters - which you can buy a box cheaper online anyway.

We use tank Easter for teas coffee cooking but usually have a pack of 2 litre bottles of water in the back.. we keep one in the fridge (and yeah we have another for the dog that's in the fridge too)

I would think so as topped up ever other day refresh it ?

Exactly no stale water if you use it and replace . If left for a month different story maybe .

In my old hymer lived in all year tank as clean as a whistle .

Was the cutter grid broken? 🤣🤣 Worked on loads of K40s they're all revolting inside. They all seem to buy ice here in Spain, much better... Err, I hope 🤔😊
