Don’t use 4g on ships

Not that it particular bothers me as I don’t pick the bill up but both my wife’s and my smart phones incurred a very large “Maritime” bill. For 4g usage when on the Brittany ferry about 20 mins from the French shore .

Well when you think about it there are not that many phone aerial transmitters in the sea between the UK and Spain, so 4g would be to the ships system, then via satellite to a ground station somewhere and then onto a phone netwrok. Doubt it's cheap!

We were on the dock side and we didn’t know the phone had connected to maritime . Shocker of a bill so we are very careful now
