It's now year 2. Year 1(last year 2020) I was able to use the MH for 2 nights only with all the lockdown restrictions and now in 2021 when things are starting to ease a bit, all the sites I'd like to go to are full. I've also been attacked by recurring bouts of arthritis flaring up and making movement difficult/impossible for up to 4 weeks which obviously makes using the MH "challenging" and walking very difficult! The joy of the MH for me is exploring new places, meeting new people and the sheer joy of travelling. I've explored Europe with my late wife, I've toured the western side of the USA for 8 months, I've toured Morocco and there is hardly a corner of the UK into which I haven't poked my nose. Now what?? Foreign travel is "out"; most UK areas I have been to, some several times and my physical limitations and creeping, irreversible old age make things so much more difficult being a singleton. The MH sits on my drive all taxed, insured, MOT'd and ready to go and has been used for the occasional day out but .......
So what's this all about? Decision time is "do I sell up and bow to the inevitable concatenation of events which make future touring more and more difficult, or do I hang on to my ageing MH and just use it as a day van"? My heart says "keep it, once it's gone it's all gone", or do I hang on to it for the occasional day out "just because I can and it has a loo on board!".
Horns of a dilemma. What would you do, or did you do??

No.......... hang on in there........ If I can keep trying anyone can..... there are loads of places we have been.... but would like to go back and see what changes have been made...

We have decided to keep going until such time as they take my driving license away..

We like you have travelled all over the world and the UK.... but there are still places we have not been to..

And on top of that....... You have not met me in the flesh "YET"...... or have you..???.. :Eeek::giggler:

Keep it and use it when you can, in the way that suits you best.
We all need a little bit of indulgence and if you still get enjoyment from it then a few days away are something to look forward to.
Much better than the poxy interest you'd get if you sold and put cash in the bank.

Keep it as long as you can afford it.
The odd day out and about will perk you up and help keep you ticking over.
Once sold you may regret it, atm at least its there if you want to.

Oh yes I have! You and Judy kindly offered me a welcome mug of tea when I stopped by on my little motorbike when you were living near Hardy's Monument. An unforgettable experience for me anyway!!

I can understand that situation.
I've always motorhomed abroad but since I can only use mine in the U.K. during Covid and being of mature years have visited much of this island (camping with kids, hired static caravan hols, motorbike camping etc.) I've decided to use it for accommodation in order to visit the couple of dozen specific places on my bucket list which I've always meant to see but never got around to it (partly because they didn't appeal to my various ladies at the time). E.g. The Kew steam pumping station, Chatham historic dockyard, Flag Fen archaeological site, Leeds castle, the Sutton Hoo Saxon ship, Burrell's steam museum, National Coal Mining museum, Matthewsons Classic Car auctions, Conwy Castle, James Heriott's house, Aysgarth Falls, Frenchman's Creek, The National Maritime museum, The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct ..........................
(Other places of interest are available).
Should keep me busy for this year (and next if necessary).

Its difficult, I have to say we've thought similar in the past, and especially the last 18 months, but we stuck in there and thoroughly enjoyed our recent tour of Wales seeing some wonderful scenery which you can do regardless of your mobility. Once the pup has her second lot of jabs on 8 June we are hoping to escape up to Scotland for a few weeks and are looking forward to it.

Hi
This is the place for free medical advice:giggle:.

Has your specialist recommended an effective treatment to control your flair ups?
I have been on weekly injections for several years now and they fully control the rheumatoid arthritis. Had a bit of a struggle to get permission from local health authority, due to the high cost of the injections.
Still have to live with a bit osteoarthritis.

Unless you need the money, I don't see any other reason to sell it, what's it hurting? If it hasn't got any damp or anything it's not losing anything and things aren't always going to be like now, in a couple of months a whole new world will be open again.

We've lost the whole motorhome love-thing this last year so it's likely (99%) to be our last year with a van.

I'm going to try something different.

If you're going to sell then now is the time.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Andrew

Keep it . Use it occasionally, you’ll enjoy it.

Keep it and use for days out , I think you would miss it too much . Hope your health improves and you have some lovely days out x

I don’t look forward to the day that I have that decision to make.
It must be so much more difficult now you will travel alone but also with the pains of age to which I empathise and they make what used to be easy an absolute pain.
For me I don’t want to give up anytime soon because I don’t want the armchair to be the only choice.
Keep thinking it through as there may be a simple answer to your question.

Hi.
Have a Hip joint, all other bits letting me know they are there. Came to Portugal about a third of the way down, Santa Comba Dao........Sunshine,warmth....easier movement all day every day. You don't have to go the whole hog and move over here. ( We have a daughter living over here,so the choice was easy for us ) BUT. you could take extended holidays over here in your Mo/ho,you would need to be here for a few weeks to get the warmth up to speed. Worth a punt, kill two stones with one bird :ROFLMAO:
Cod liver oil tabs Triple strength Omega 3. Glucosamine sulphate 2KCL 1500 mg ? seems to help .
Best of luck whatever you decide.
Tea Bag.
PS. Swimming earlier this week 18,30 hrs off a beach near Tavira..... ( Be surprised if there was anyone in the out door pool at the Bath Hotel Matlock then.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:(y))

Should think you can eat enough fish in Portugal to not bother with Omega Three.😃 BUSBY.

Digger

Our MH has been basically static for 1 1/2 years but restrictions are easing and see here what is planned(I am 79)

This is planned because Greece has eased up.

Restrictions may ease up for you too, so I would hang on at least till they may ease.

If after that you feel you want to stop, the decision will be obvious, but do not stop just because of the current restrictions.

Geoff

I feel for you and would offer one bit of advice which is....go somewhere in the van. Anywhere for as long as you feel comfortable. Or, to put it another way, fall in love with motorhoming again. When you make the final decision it will be from a position of actual knowledge not fear of "what if?"
Best of luck

Unless you really need the money keep it! If you sell it, you definitely won’t be going away in it, but if it’s on the drive, it may just tempt you! Don’t think of it as a waste of money, because you can’t take it with you (no pockets in a shroud, as my mum used to say!). Day trips, short trips away nearby - all are possible, as long as you can drive!

That is one of the side effects,,think it doesn't suit about one in a thousand..You are required to have an eye test every year.I luckily have not had any problems.BUSBY.

You couldnt see all of England let alone the UK in one life time. There must be plenty out there you aint seen yet. Climb aboard, press the starter, turn left (or right) and just go.

If ever there was a reason to sell a motorhome surely the thought of meeting this old duffer and having to put up with his jokes in the flesh it must make realise it's the right decision

Right I've got my daily dig at the old duffer Mo out of the way and I have written about 8 response to the op predicament and deleted them because I feel I'm maybe stepping overvtbe marque so in simple terms please don't sell it but get your favourite picture of your wife and go back to 1 of the places you both enjoyed and then I think you will have a different outlook

We've hardly used our van for 15 months and I've similarly half wondered....

But only for a moment. Although had a knee op last week so out of action for a while longer, I'm sure we will soon be back on the road.

Unless you urgently need the dosh, I'd hang on to the van. It's not a waste of money to keep it taxed, MOT'd and insured - and it means you're ready to go at a moment's notice, when you feel ready.

Good luck whatever you decide. (y)

Hi busby
...................... " Bacalhau........" The portugues have it for Christmas Dinner. It seems you have to soak it in milk for three months :rolleyes: ( Changing the milk of course ) just to get the salt out.Tried it once and vowed NEVER to eat it again. It is sold in all the Supermarkets, stacked up dried and looks to all the world like Snow Shoes ( And tastes the SAME !!). Yes,they do eat loads of fish, but,i have not found any " Finny Haddock yet...Now there is a fine meal, cook it,put a poached egg on top and give it to me for breakfast.Smoked Mackeral ? Yes. ,now then Tuna, tinned and fresh caught, but do not like Salmon.
