Driving to Peterbough on Friday when a Ford transit coming from the opposite direction crossed the white line and hit our van,
The driver was playing with his phone as he hit our van and never stopped, I have it all on dash cam even the impact.
So contacted the police and was told to put it on the police web site (not simple)
This was hit and run, but we have the footage clear as day with the registration HW69 PVP on our side of the road, but can not see the driver using the phone
The police are less than useless
I can repair our van with little effort but the driver was breaking the law on video still not enough proof.
The system is a total joke and is totally broken
☹☹☹☹

If you have the number. Try DVLA?. They don`t normally give details to the public but with a crime number you might get a result?.

If it was lettered?. Write/E-Mail the company. A friend of mine some years ago was involved it a similar incident in Scotland. He phoned the Company spoke to the MD who asked for the recording. It later transpired that the guy got a right Bollocking off his M-D. And my Mate got a written apology. In his case there was no damage as such it was just bad driving and a "near miss"

HW69 PVP White Ford E6 Diesel First reg Jan 2020. (DVLA) Being NEW it could be a company vehicle?.

No letters on the van

Here is a picture of the twat that hit our van on Friday and drove off whilst on the phone.
Before anyone says Data protection I would like to meet this twat in person.☹

I feel your anger.

I think you should contact your local Police Commissioner, and your local MP.....set one off against the other.....which one of you is going to sort this,....type of question.

Bloody annoying..
Good luck.

This is not the end of this, now Denise has got the bit between her teeth.
It is not about our incident, but the use of mobile phones whilst driving.

What is the point of the law if there are no easy ways to implement them.

Next time the police ask me anything I know nothing !

At the very least the police should be nicking him for driving without due care and attention...if they're suggesting they haven't got enough evidence re: the phone?
Same old response from the old bill....not fit for purpose that mob!

You may be able to get the video improved, it is generally dark but clever software may be able to lighten it and show more detail. Talk to your local photography shop.

Do NOT 'improve' the image.
It would make that video inadmissible in any Court or proceedings.

You were lucky to be clipped and not have had a head on collision.
Maybe a visit to your local police Station with all evidence 'should' get the ball rolling.
Keep copies of the forms handed in etc to follow up any action or inaction.

Just repeating many of the sentiments above, complain, take it higher and don’t be fobbed off.

I appreciate that you could see the driver using his phone, but that is not evident in the video, however there is more than enough for the police to run with a careless driving prosecution.

Google for Boots prosecuting a shoplifter who is clearly on video. Police could not be arsed to prosecute. It was in the papers last week.

A neighbours stationary van was hit by a young lad. Loads of damage caused. The young lads front panel and registration number was left behind after he drove off. Again enough evidence but police didn't want to know.

Keep the original data on the original chip. I saved to hard drive and deleted as I was going on holiday and then was told that it would be inadmissible.

If nothing else I am confident your insurers will have no problem recovering the cost of your damage from the other driver from that photo alone ?
I came back to my parked car to find a lot of damage from a hit and run.A chap came over and told me he saw it and took a photo of the vehicle as it drove off.He sent me the photo together with his contact details which I passed on to my insurers.Result was a repair done under insurance as a non fault accident claim. Not sure what happened to the other party.

A few years ago our Hymer was broken into on our driveway. Amongst the items stolen were a lot of cables (for charging various appliances). A couple of days later I was talking to a relative about it and she said the day before her friend had observed people living in some bushes at the bottom of her garden, alongside the railway (only half a mile from us). When the people had gone out she went to have a look and found a bag of electrical cables which she took to the local police station. I went to the police station to explain and asked if I could look at the bag handed in, to see if the items were mine. Expecting that the duty officer would simply go to bring me the bag and so help with any investigations - the police had visited at the time of the break in. I was told that it was against the rules to view the contents and sent on my way! The police did not carry out any investigations and simply closed the case. A cap, which fell off the thief when I wrestled with him, was taken away for DNA testing was discarded - I was told that this would have to have been sent to another police force for testing and would be chargeable to our force. I wrote to the chief of police to complain and had a senior officer come to see me - I think he spent more time interviewing me than they spent on the “crime”.
A complete waste of time, not fit for purpose.
