We are close to getting our new motorhome now and I have started in earnest looking for the best insurance cover for us and the cost variation is ridiculous. I have had quotes for exactly the same vehicle and cover ranging from under £350 to over £1200. Can anyone give me a straightforward opinion of their insurance company choice. We have no need for either UK or European breakdown cover. Thanks.

More than toes wet now!
Cheapest for us over the last few years has been C&MC. Never had to claim during this period so how they perform is an unknown however there are a number of positive reviews of claims management.
Breakdown cover is independently through ADAC.

Motor insurance is a dark art that few of us understand.
It all depends on your profile.
AIB underwritten by markerstudy for me but I've never had a claim. Online reviews are not great but I ignore them

Just make sure it's a proper motorhome policy and not a car policy. It's not all about price you need to review the covers given also. Like you say some inc breakdown some EU cover. So have limited cover for contents, charge extra so audio and sat equipment etc it
By you comparing price you ain't comparing like for like.
Cheapest is not always the best however the most expensive ain't always the best also.
You need to ensure the policy meets your requirements.
And as pointed out depending on age, location, vehicle etc. That price will change from company to company from individual to individual
No two quotes will be the same for anyone.
It's the same with car insurance price ranges are massive depends.
We are with Comfort decent price, good cover and excellent claims service.

If your motorhome is a new additional vehicle one factor will be a lack of available no claims discount! When we started Caravanguard were best then they increased their price so we then went with Comfort. Not interested in insuring our Niesmann & Bischoff so we moved to the NFU. As has been said make sure the cover is right first and then and only then check the price. By the way you should be able to get an introductory 25% off if you have other insurances with No Claims Discount to get you started.

Getting there!
Comfort by far the cheapest for us.

We compared only cover that was similar from MH specialists.

We've been with several companies but are currently with NFU due to their legendary service.

Thanks to you all for your help, I committed today to NFU as @Abacist and @sdc77 have intimated they were genuinely interested as well as very knowledgeable and they also came recommended by SMC the supplying dealer, appears to be very good cover and a really good price especially compared to others who were nearly 4 times the price. One thing I had been very alert to was the windscreen cover, with NFU I can choose to use my own windscreen fitter and it is only £20 extra on the excess.

If your new van is over 3500kg I would start looking for breakdown cover. A regular multicar/personal policy won't cover it.

C&MC at our renewal (even though they had covered the van since new) said we had to have a tracker as its value was over £50k. We are with Saga now. (y)

Been with Comfort for years, year on year price hardly increases, for us much cheaper than anyone else.
Comfort operate a net policy so no NCD to worry about & breakdown cover is optional so if you don't need it you don't pay for it.

Phoned them today, but I had to have Category 6 tracker fitted to get insurance. Have a tracker but not to that spec. It did get my attention when you could travel for nine months in Europe with them , for no surcharge. Not needing it now, so the search goes on.
