There last night. Knew our neighbour was booked into workshop for 8.30 so had to be up early. Butler was making early morning cuppa, looked out window said chap next door is trying to drive off with mains lead connected. Stopped when drove over cable. Got out in a bit of a huff, unplugged and threw plug on ground, plug fell in two with a large flash. He cleared off, we had no electric. Resetting trip on stack made no difference but connecting to a different stack did, calming management who was muttering about toaster. So went and made wardens day. He worked back from bollard to main distribution point where he was able to reset trips, so nothing irreparably damaged.
If I turn on ignition on my auto sleepers with mains cable plugged in, even if not live, air raid sirens wake everyone up. Hymers obviously expect better of their drivers. Course we can all be smug because none of us have ever done anything like this.

3 words: Pre Flight Checks... :giggle:
I always walk round the van checking around it, under it and that nothing is caught in the roof. So I've never left anywhere with anything still connected to the van.
Though I have had to stop a couple of times to shut an internal door I'd left unfastened and which was banging to and fro.

That might sound smug, but it's not. I've done it since the day I put my beautiful leather work bag down by my front wheel and after chatting to a colleague got in and managed to drive over said work bag, destroying it. 😵‍💫 Luckily it didn't have my laptop in!

I got caught out on the way back from Shepton. Stopped at Sainsbury's near Basingstoke for a break and top up provisions. Unbeknown to me, while I was turning on the gas for the fridge, someone opened a roof vent as we were leaving the cats in the van and the sun was out.

Remembered the gas, habitation door, cats in baskets etc. etc. A few miles further on the M3, someone kind in a PVC overtook us with the passenger frantically pointing at the roof! :( Moral of the story, ALWAYS do the full pre-flight checks even when just stopping for a break.

Stunned me that I couldn't hear the wind noise though!

We drove from Strepy boat lift through the village onto the next village to find an ATM, when Mrs CC walked back to the van she said, you have left the toilet window open!
It was sticking out about a good foot😳😳 never noticed it in the mirrors…

What had you been doing to need the toilet window open a foot? ;) ;)

Wish ours did......... the only times we have not done pre-flight checks we have forgotten to close, unplug or fasten something. Once was due to our grandson distracting us both and the second because I had fallen and Martin was coming to collect me in the van.

Toilet window?

Is that for looking out or for looking in?

Electric cable is coiled for storage with a velcro strap. If deployed strap goes onto the steering wheel as visual warning. Solves that problem.

Now if someone can find a visual aid for the drawer and door catches, rooflights, flappy drop down sink, shower that will fall off the hook with a crash onto the shower tray below, cooker hob glass cover and particularly switching the fridge from gas to battery .....

Pre flight checks here as well. We have attached a checklist to the passenger dash and one of us reads it out before we move an inch. I walk round then SWMBO walks round. That way, if something is forgotten, we can't yell at the other. Never lost anything so far. Just need to avoid complacency.

Saw a small French camper pull away still attached in Normandy. Woman was driving and the bloke waved her off. She pulled the post half out of the ground. She was upset, he was shouting at her. Mrs DDJC was livid, and wanted to go over and tell him that as he waved her off, it is HIS fault, and to stop bellowing at his poor lady friend. My participation consisted of finishing my glass of cidre and staying out of it.

My cable plugs in by the drivers door. I check around the van ,get the dog in via drivers door & then drive off with the cable in. :giggler:

At Woodside Field the most common one we see is failure to release the handbrake leaving skid marks on the lawn.:eek::eek:
Or tearing up the grass on your steep hill, I'm an expert at it. Good job you are a frendly CL owner.

Also have a vent but a window is handy for looking out of😁

I sometimes drape the EHU lead over the drivers' wing mirror as a visual aid.

I also have laminated a fairly comprehensive check list, including things to check before leaving home - set alarm etc. We once went on holiday, and I forgot to shut the front door. My daughter arrived 4 days later to check the house, and the door was wide open!

I didn’t think you saw me! I thought that I must have settled down a bit after 4 days there when I couldn’t move forwards or back, took a moment to realise …….. :whistle2: :giggler:

I've yanked a power cable and tripped the breaker before... 😬

I do always do a full walk around pre-flight check. But my brain only thought to do it when I actually drive...

I'd been plugged in at home overnight to chill the fridge before a trip. In the morning I needed to move the van forward so I could put the bike on the back. The drive is on a slope, so I just let the handbrake off, no key in the ignition so no warning alarm, and didn't think about the cable. I rolled over it and it pulled the wire out of the socket at the van end. Oops.

we always do a flight check out side before leaving a site but on one trip I forgot to clip the sliding door to the bedroom area then wondered what was banging when going round bends.

Our pre-flight checklist is on Microsoft ToDo on our mobiles.
Tick them off as done and then untick after departure.(y)

Sandbanks camping, Titisee?
Yep, spot on.
Last October, lovely site and a great walk through the woodland path around the lake to the village.

Only a few hours drive from there at present and did think about going back but the weather down there is colder than Rothenburg where we are today so we are heading up country tomorrow 😁😁
