Don't know but first thing to try is a forced power off and on - ie press the power button and hold it down for at least 10 seconds, then press it again. Just may free it up.

Try starting in safe mode.
Your handbook will explain how but usually holding down one of the buttons on the top line of the keyboard while pressing start, F2 or F12 are favourites,

Getting better
I updated my PC with Windows 10 upgrade. It took 6 hours. Losing the will to live I looked up on line various issues regarding this upgrade. It seems that my 6 hours was far from unique, it's a pile of crap direct from Microsoft HQ.

Reminds me of the American joke about the customer who rang the helpline about a computer but @old-mo is sure to tell it again soon. :xlaugh:

I updated my PC with Windows 10 upgrade. It took 6 hours

I was thinking the same. When it did an update on mine a while ago I had a black screen for a few hours. My IT support suggested leaving it to get on with it. But not to turn it off.

A software update cannot of itself cause the symptoms you are describing. The computer doesn't know what operating system it has, never mind whether an update has been applied or not, until it attempts to read the HDD. If your machine does literally nothing at all the fault has nothing to do with W10. However you do need to make sure it is starting from a fully 'off' state so unplug from the mains, remove its battery, wait a minute or two, replace battery, then attempt to switch on.

As @tonyidle said this doesn't sound like an upgrade issue. You need to get the power side of things working.

Suggest you do as @tonyidle said take battery out and see if you get any beeps or a BIOS boot screen. The number of beeps is meaningful if you manage to get power. It could just be a 'goosed' battery. Try all the combinations of no battery just mains, battery only etc..

Once you get power we can move on from there.

Well that's one way to completely screw it, I've sorted out a couple of PC's after people had taken them to PC world for repair.

As @Lenny said I'd steer clear from PC world unless you want to be relieved of some cash!! If you have access to t'internet all the info you need will be there. You have nothing to loose by trying to figure it out but you will some form of working web connection.

Be interested to know how you have got on.

Sounds like a power issue.
Make sure the battery is correctly seated
Make sure the mains adapter is plugged in, and switched on at the mains
If all else fails - douse it in petrol, burn it, and buy a macbook (y)

Were you running a genuine copy of Windows before upgrading to W10? A little bird told me that it would kill any PC it found that wasn't :devil::devil:

I had a similar problem .just messed about with it ,must have turned it on and off at least twenty times over a couple of hours ,went to bed and left it on when i got up in the morning the start button light was on so i pressed it and it loaded up and being ok since. I must admit i preferred it before the upgrade ,wished i had not bothered .

Don't go to PC World, find one of the many PC repair places that seem to be all over.

I would echo other posts, find a good local specialist. I notice you don't say where you are based (i am vague about my location) but i bet if you gave a rough indication of your locale, say east midlands or similar there would soon be lots of recommendations to choose from.

Overviewing various comments, it seems that installing Windows 10 can be done in a short time or it might take a couple of days! Mine only took about 30 mins, both on main desktop and the laptop, neither of which are state of the art, and both work fine. But I know people where it's taken at least a few hours.

Before paying an expert his ridiculous fee (been there, told them I'll sort it myself) why not just leave it switched on for 48 hours? W10 is supposed to have a great ability to recover from problems and it just may need time left alone to sort itself out. I know this tends to go against the modern "want it NOW" syndrome but it might work.
