Why does the page look like this one instead of the old easier display?

Because the forum has been upgraded.

One man's "easier" is another man's "not as exciting or dynamic".

The old forum software was coming to the end of its life and had to be replaced.
This is the best Jim's meagre pocket money could buy so we're stuck with it for at least five more years.

That particular view of the forum sections has hardly changed at all. Plenty of other stuff has though. Take a look at the website help forum, its all there
