Hello all, I am going to France via the Channel Tunnel towards the end of January. Does anyone know of a campsite handy (coming from Exeter) for the tunnel, bearing in mind the time of year.
Thanks.
Mike.

is probably as close as you'll get that time of year.

It's OK, lots of rabbits! about 15 mins from tunnel.

I always use The Drum Inn at Ashford about 15 min max to tunnel. Have Ehu in field with toilets and showers if you need, you can book on line. We always get down late afternoon and have meal in the pub(good food) nice relaxing start to trip

Avoid eating in the pub across the road. It’s awful or rather it was on my previous 2 visits

Drive direct to Folkestone and go through the tunnel late afternoon, which is probably a fair bit cheaper then a morning crossing.
Leave the French terminal and 4-5 minutes away is the free parking at Cite Europe.
Stock up on essentials in Carrefour next morning and straight on to the motorway for an early start.

Richard.

Absolutely no contest, why anyone would pay good money to just stay on this side over night defeats me , half an hour difference between paying here or cite Europe for free, plus another half a day saved the next day.

Have to agree with @Clarky and @chaser (above) but, if you have to stay on this side of La Manche you couldn't do any better than Canterbury Park and Ride.
It has the advantage of getting you into an Aires mood as it's the nearest thing we have to the french ones.

The Aire at Canterbury Park and Ride would be my first choice if stopping on the UK side. But, as others have said, I would prefer to get across to France and then put our heads down in Cite Europe. If you get there early enough you can fill up with everything French in the Supermarket that evening. That means you can have a nice early start heading for the sun the next day.

Bearsted is a good site, but closed until March - or I would use that.

We are also converts to staying at Cite Europe both ways. Evening tunnel over around 7pm gives plenty of time to get to Folkstone and then on way back take early morning crossing about 8 am and can be home in Bristol by midday.

Yep agree with Peter, one or tother depending on time of train. Get to Canterbury Park and Ride early and get bus in F.o.C. (Included in overnight cost)

Another vote for crossing straight over to France. If you are heading west the lovely free aire at Montreuil is only one hour down the road. N 50.45921 E1.59914

On 3rd van so not a total newbie....
Agree with other comments straight to tunnel and stay at cite Europe, you then start fresh in the morning the right side of the channel. Don't believe the daily mail hype Calais and cite Europe is perfectly safe.

We always use the tunnel (living in East Devon) . Then catch the train about 4.30ish pm. As above use the cite d' Europe follow signs. The full address is Cite d'Europe, Boulevard du Kent. COQUELLES. use this address in your sat nav. Coquelles NOT Calais. This a VERY SAFE aire/parking area.

WE will be doing the same about the 18th January.

Why not drop down into Hythe, plenty of parking alongside canal, supermarkets and pubs available , 10 min from tunnel if that.

I see your point about getting straight through the tunnel. I have never been through the tunnel and I travel alone. Is it easy enough to negotiate if its dark?

Getting better month by month.
Easiest place to find. If you sat nav just put in co-ords or just follow the rest of the MHs. 10 mins you will be there. (y) If you can look up @KeithChesterfield youtube vids. - there are many more as well.

No problems as all. All of the parking areas, access roads and loading platforms are very well lit with floodlights etc, as are the train carriages. System is very logical and you just follow the signs and there are usually people about showing you exactly where to go. Out the other side is the same, and a 2 minute drive on new wide well lit roads to Cite Europe which involves taking the first branch off to the right (signposted to Cite Europe), left turns on the next 2 roundabouts and a left turn into the dedicated motorhome parking area.

Found this I am sure this will help. Cite de Europe, address for Carrefour (massive shopping area) is :-

lat, 50.93452 lon, 1.80787

The motorhome parking is right opposite the main entrance.
