Need advice re C1 was going to do the medical with gp but can't get an appointment and D4 haven't got any slots near me this week unfortunately we are off on travels for the next 4 weeks ( UK) back on the 6th July and licence expires on 27th July and possibly a trip to Dubai on the 26th July ,so was thinking that I might just renew and apply for C2 when I have a little more time to sort it all out, what are your thoughts as need to set my mind at rest.

I’m applying for my first, sent paperwork to dvla and 4.5 weeks in still nothing so if this is something you’ll need to consider then schedule in your diary accordingly . They’re saying allow 6 weeks before contacting them to chase !!

Sent my stuff in and then got forms to fill in. Returned everything 13 April and still waiting.

I must have been lucky. Sent my D2 and D4 on 4 May by signed for post and got new license back in the post on 27 May.
Ahh yes but that’s the 27th of May, the 27th of July is sneaky. Nobody knew when it was coming. Haha

Could you not check out D4drivers website and set yourself up an appointment for when you are in the UK.
It's my understanding they have places all over the UK

If you have applied before the expiry date you can continue to drive in UK while the licence is being processed under a rule called S.88(?), but not outside UK.

If that is OK it would avoid you applying for car and C1 later

Geoff

There are quite a few companies that do driver medicals besides D4 drivers just do a google search, I'm sure one of them would be able to help.

You mention your fall-back option is to apply for a C2 ??? Do you mean a category B licence.

Sent my paperwork 15th April not got licence yet and they don’t answer phone

So finally managed to get though on phone told 6 weeks then try calling ! Disgraceful really... and every excuse used and complete failure to mention strikes ... pffft so I wait another 2 weeks to chase !

I have decided to renew my C1 license I got all forms & medical plus eye tests, this was in March sent to dvla, my licence ran out mid June still no response from DVLA, tried ringing no luck with this, just told I would hear when it’s been done, they keep going on strike which doesn’t help.

I am still waiting for a response from Grant Shapps about the ongoing difficulties a lot of us have or are experiencing.
I never did get a reply to the two letters and an email enquiry from the DVLA.
It’s a terrible pickle and currently, not fit for purpose.

Still waiting since April, although I did have some forms sent on Monday asking the same questions as were answered on the paperwork I sent in. One question what medication am I taking? My doctor trying to be helpful included a copy of my prescription, that didn't help did it.

Started the process beginning of March by requesting the D2 & D4 forms as post office do not keep them, took 2 weeks to arrive, had medical with doctor and sent off mid march, Still waiting, have sent emails, recorded del letters, tried calling, just got a letter asking for more info' which was already on the D4, but it seems that medical team need to ask again to clarify.
Absolutely useless waste of our, tax-payer's, money
Don't hold your breath.

A few months earlier my C1 went through in a few weeks, no extra health questions despite my sleep apnoea and a long list of regular medication. I used my GP for the D4.

Her in Poland Driving Licences and Vehicle Registration are dealt with at local level, as DVLA did years ago and it seems to work better even with COVID restrictions.

Geoff

Talking to drivers at work some of them have been over a year waiting on dvla to decide if they can drive or not.

I sent my vocational renewal off with the D4 on the 7th June. Signed for post! Recurved an email 4 weeks later saying they had received it!! Luckily I can still drive until I hear otherwise. HGV. S in this case. The C1 is auto renewal for 3 years each time I renew. Eight weeks appears to be the time for Vocational Licences at present. You can check to see if it has been renewed on the View my License portal .

Up-date on mine, just received another letter asking me to have a full medical with my GP, i have already done the D4 medical, answered 2 sets of questions and given permission for them to contact my GP.
My Diabetes is very well controlled, always between 4 and 9, no other problems or medication, and my eyesight has been passed by 2 opticians.
Seems like that now i have registered a complaint, they are making things as difficult as possible.
Trying not to get too wound up by this farce, but we are 20 weeks in now since i started the process, my licence expired at the end May,
Joe

Mine took 6 weeks, It seems if you have any issues it takes much longer. I used D4 drivers medical because they have a site in LLandudno but in the past I've used Drivers Medical 01254 825241

Get your MP involved and ask him or her to refer your case to:

Thanks, have already started that process, after letters, complaints forms, have copied all to MP, just waiting to hear.
Now have all paper trail in a folder, which i keep in car / MH just in case i am stopped.

Thinking of writing a comedy programme along the lines of "Carry On DVLA", anyone think it would be a winner ??

Sent mine off 24 June ?? Need to get to France shortly our properly has suffered storm damage not looking good. You would think they could come up with some sort of temp permit that would be accepted in Europe, but that would be too easy and take another umpteen staff to sort it. I appreciate there are difficult circumstances but by now there should be systems in place.

Drivers at work were over a year before they made their mind up

It took them that long with mine even before covid. I had to use the MP and ombudsman as the can was kicked down the road time after time as the medical board never got to my application when they met.
