I am still waiting for a response from Grant Shapps about the ongoing difficulties a lot of us have or are experiencing.
I never did get a reply to the two letters and an email enquiry from the DVLA.
It’s a terrible pickle and currently, not fit for purpose.
Try contacting your local MP if you don’t get a reply from Shapps. I contacted mine when the delay got silly and got action within a week.

DVLA are a disgrace.

I did write to Grant Shapps back in June, today I have the reply.

BUT its not from Grant but rather the DVLA of all things. Absolutely nothing in the letter surprises me. There was Covid, industrial action and IT problems, yes, they rolled out the usual suspects. Very adept at having ready made excuses.

It makes you wonder their competence, with lines like 'we are doing all we can to answer calls and reply to correspondence as quickly as possible.'

Its just really very sad and pathetic. I am sorry, its just utter bollox.

The worst thing about the C1 process is lack of communication especially when you have a medical issue it goes on for weeks and months and you are not even informed if your application is being processed. I have been waiting for an age but l did get through by phone and was informed they were processing it which meant only that but at least it settled my mind.
So a heads up if you want to phone, the lines are open in a Saturday morning and l got through straight away after trying about a 100 times on a weekday.
l am still waiting after they wrote to my GP two weeks ago,l checked with my Surgery to ensure it had been dealt with in case there was a cost implication as it’s a private matter outside of the NHS. Hopefully l will see it shortly and then it’s goodbye to the U.K. winter.

Maybe they should have added with the limited budget from the Government? Best not mention that.

It’s amazing isn’t it!
Bog standard C1 licence renewal took almost 16 weeks.
Passport renewal, where one would expect more security implications and checks, 3 days.

Sack the damned lot of the lazy s@ds at DVLA and start again. If the lot in Wales don’t want to work move the DVLA to an area where they will value the jobs.

Richard. :banghead:

Hi Joe , just a thought did you do your medical at D4 or your gp, I did mine at gp's so I wonder if they (dvla) take medicals from gp's over d4 .

I have been suspicious of this since I applied late December 20 and got my C1 back in mid Jan 21, using my GP, when others were waiting longer. The DVLA must know that a GP has access to your medical records but D4 has to rely mostly on what you tell them. It is the DVLA that passes you, not the doctor, who just submits a report.

with GP< so far had 2 medicals with GP, 2 eyesight tests, and now have to have a consultation with a Diabetic specialist, as the latest letter says " any report from a GP is not acceptable" DVLA wording.
I might add that my Diabetes is under full control with good daily readings and no spikes or history of diabetic episodes.
All this to drive a MH weighing 4.5 tonnes, but i could go and buy a 200mpoh supercar and drive it with no medical checks at all !!!

Started the process beginning of March by requesting the D2 & D4 forms as post office do not keep them, took 2 weeks to arrive, had medical with doctor and sent off mid march, Still waiting, have sent emails, recorded del letters, tried calling, just got a letter asking for more info' which was already on the D4, but it seems that medical team need to ask again to clarify.
Absolutely useless waste of our, tax-payer's, money
Don't hold your breath.
I applied for mine pre covid, things were OK then. A lot has changed since. I can’t help thinking covid is a very convenient excuse for gross ineptitude.

I got mine back quickly during the Covid period but before the industrial action.

Because you will not get a C1 without it. They use the report to decide whether you are fit enough and ask for further investigations if they are not sure. If it comes from your GP they know that the Dr has your records and might well have more trust in that than another doctor who does not.

To many to mention
At the moment a lot of GP’s are not filling in the DVLA medical forms due to workload because of covid. Our surgery recommended a doctor working at the local hospital who filled husbands out. Posted to DVLA 17th August but no reply yet.
In August son requested normal photo licence on line (previously just using old paper licence, not sure if accepted in Europe now) got an automated reply of application but so far no licence.
I think it’s time that EVERYONE waiting more than 6 weeks should write to their MP and the Transport Minister to complain that DVLA are not fit for purpose.
If they received enough complaints we may get some joy.
At the moment you cannot hire a vehicle or drive abroad even in a vehicle under 3.5 ton.

From my own experience waiting 9 months to get a provisional hgv license because of a health issue, i believe what they are most concerned about is whether your treatment is effective and whether you are following your doctors treatment plan, If and when i reach 70 i will of course sort my medical out in good time but i will also provide proof of continuing adherence to treatment, i realise this may be more difficult for some conditions then others but there's nothing wrong with getting a letter from your doctor/consultant and submitting it with your application. The problem with the dvla is they won't tell you why it's taking a long time, they wrote to my Doctor and to my consultant but because i had not needed to see either of them for several years they could not confirm that i was well, it took several phone calls before someone would actually tell me what the issue was and once i'd satisfied their requirement i got my licence 2 weeks later.
