I'm a newbie
The black out roof blind in our Hymer is broken. It will put across but it takes for ages to open it again. I have had a quote for a new unit as over £500. Any cheaper ideas please

A photo and details of the roof light (Heki?) would help.
If it is spring loaded you may be able to re-tension the spring
If not you should be able to buy a spare and fit it yourself for far less.

If you get no luck with a replacement you could try my remedy, our Hymer has never had one fitted and I have never been able to find one to fit myself.

When the wife got fed up with 04.30 starts due to raging sunlight I got a piece of card cut from a box and glued the radiator reflector foil to both sides (thin layer of polystyrene with foil glued to it).

Each night I wind up the roof vent a bit, slide in the home made blind and wind it down to trap it in place.

Foil both sides means it doesn't matter which way round you fit it, and it keeps the van cooler if you fit it on hot days as well.

Foil from Lidl, £1.29, PVA glue from the pound shop, 99pand card from an old stair gate box, free.

It's been working well for over 2 years so far.

Hymie.
