Battery Megastore or Tayna?

I would not touch Tayna with a barge pole. They do not post any negative feedback they receive on there website and some of their batteries are not fully charged when shipped to the customer. I returned 2 brand new batteries because they were down to 12.4 V and clearly never checked whilst they were stored in their depot. As a minimum, check voltage and battery fluid level (Lead Acid) upon receipt.

I don't understand. Given the accuracy of your meter and temperature that's 75% charged, is that a problem ?

Yes! It's not what I paid for and they accepted the return on the basis the batteries had not been maintained to their minimum charge levels whilst being held in stock.

Just bought from battery megastore.
Will never order from them again... The have spammed me each morning requesting a review with no way to unsubscribe from their mailing list.
Putting me on a mailing list without my permission is a serious no no for me. Not allowing me to easily unsubscribe is the final straw.
They are now banned from my mail server and I will never use them again.

Yup, weight is generally a good way to judge quality of lead acid batteries.

However, I seem to recall Jim mentioning about concrete being found in the bottom of a battery. I can't recall the brand or any other details unfortunately.

Not over impressed when the first thing I read is:

The chargers generally fitted in caravans and motorhomes are not really battery chargers but power supplies designed to run the 12V equipment on board. As such they are not ideal for fully charging a leisure battery although the so called ‘intelligent chargers’ introduced in the last few years are much better in this respect.

I need to buy 2 new leisure batteries to be delivered tomorrow ... any pro's or against's for these suppliers?

The point of the article I wanted to convey was about not letting batteries fall below 12.4V when in use. If a brand new battery is delivered at 12.4V then it is delivered only half charged.

If Lead Acid, consider the Exide ET650 battery. 360 cycles @50% D.O.D. and according to the Exide specification 27KG per Battery. I weighed mine upon receipt and they were 28 KG. A big chunk of lead for a standard sized 100 AH battery.

When in use ! It wasn't in use. 12.4V is about 75% charged. Again temp and meter dependent.

I don't see the problem.

I'm not scoring points here, if I don't understand I ask questions.

Perhaps this will clarify a little further why batteries should not be left partially charged/discharged.

As you discharge a lead-acid battery, lead sulphate forms on the plates. During recharge, the sulphate converts back to lead and lead dioxide. However, if left for an extended period, the sulphate crystallises, making it difficult to change back. The process is known as sulphation and can significantly reduce the performance of the battery.

Over the years, various remedies and chargers have appeared that claim to reverse the effects of sulphation but, in the author's experience, it's much better to avoid it in the first place.

Over-Discharging
The second leading cause of premature failure is over discharging. The deeper you discharge a lead-acid battery, the shorter its life will be. A budget leisure battery that in reality is little different from a car battery may suffer damage if discharged below 80% of its capacity - see 'lead-shedding'.

Update: Just finished sorting out the van and fitting the new battery. The new battery barely turned the engine over... Looks like it had been left on the shelf too long without a maintenance charge. Not overly impressed.

Thought for a few seconds it wasn't going to be able to start my van :( panicked at bit.

Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Forum advertiser and donator of Lithium batteries.
I have an adblocker for security reasons so didn't know they advertised here and didn't realise they were the people doing the li battery competition as I didn't take part and am not following the thread.

Would you rather I enthusiastically deceived other funsters in order to keep an advertiser happy? I am not on the payroll.

It would be nice if they were to come on and let us know that they were either making the emails opt in, and added an unsubscribe button. (GDPR requires unsubcribing or withdrawing consent to be as easy as giving it)

Not much can be done about the shipped flat battery as it is fitted now and I need it. I won't be sending it back or getting a warranty replacement when it fails. It is currently on a full maintenance charge cycle.

I was going to order these as at Pickering I thought my inverter batteries had had enough at 6.5yrs old BUT they are fully charged again and OK

Sometimes a little diplomacy is in order.
I think I was fair and accurate... I didn't bad mouth them nor did I put up bad reviews on the sites they requested me to review on.

As I said I didn't realise they were an advertiser on here and to be fair I may have tempered my complaint a tiny bit but it wouldn't have changed the details of my complain nor the result.

It is my personal policy that any company that spams me or markets to me without my prior consent does not get my business in future. I probably wouldn't have mentioned it if there was an unsubscribe button and I had done that 2 days ago. I would probably have forgotten all about it before this thread started. However, they disturbed me two days in the row with spam early in the morning. They forced me to make configuration changes to my mailserver... They got my grump up.

Gromett I prefer your honesty (y)
Personally I have dealt with megastore in the past without issue
I have bought off them before. Spent £300 with them last december as well. Don't recall them spamming me that time?
