B.F. Membership codes.

I’m afraid you have got this wrong, I’m not asking for a code, as I am already a club member. My question is, as you read it.

I think it’s fine to ask, it’s a win win isn’t it ? I , as a BF club voyage member get a £10 credit once a year (up to a max no. ) and the person asking gets a discount off their ferry cost .

I don’t see it as a form of begging.

I don’t pass mine on to those who aren’t paid up funster members.

You said in your OP,
"Is it ok to ask for a B F club voyager code? Or is it a form of begging?"

I'm not being pedantic but your form of words suggested that you wanted a BF code.
That's why you received two codes by way of a Conversation.

Emmit. If I wanted a code, I would have done what everyone else does, that is ask for one. I didn’t do that. I asked if it is ok to ask for one, as many do on this forum. Nowhere does that imply that I wanted one, that was you not me.
Having said that, I applaud your generosity for providing one. But do have misgivings of providing them to anyone who asks, outside family and friends, as stated by BF.

I read that as you asking if it's O.K. for you to request a code, not whether it's O.K. for someone else to ask you for a code.

Lots of us think it’s OK to ask.
Lots of us don’t think it’s begging.

OR

Some people might think it’s not OK to ask.
Some people might think it’s a form of begging.

You can now take your pick as you have asked the question on an open forum and there will be lots of opinions and ways of interpreting your original post. You do sound slightly irritated already so I may have added to that of course.:giggle:

Yes in my opinion its ok to ask. No it's not begging, but some people will not want to share.

It seems the OP wasn't asking for a code as they've written........

As my head teacher used to say as he dipped his huge hand into my crisps "share and share alike "

Is it ok to ask yes. Is it ok to either say yes or if you don't want to give it say nothing yes. Is it ok to criticise what others do I suspect not unless it directly affects you. It wouldn't affect us as we always use the tunnel but why would anyone who has a code complain about others giving theirs to people. I know there's going to be the if it's misused it might go argument but does anyone really think BF are bothered it's free advertising for them.

I would suggest, based on the Court of public opinion, that, regardless of your thoughts and intentions in your OP, more peeps on here are of their opinion that in your OP you were, whether you intended or not, asking for a code.
You got two codes in response,. They thought you were asking. You used the word ask (even in denial).
In Yorkshire there is a phrase, "That'll learn you." it's a total incorrect form of English but everyone understands the phrase. Might I respectfully suggest you have used the word, "ask" incorrectly.

English conversational style uses indirect language. If you ask if something is acceptable, this is generally taken to mean that you are requesting the thing that is mentioned, unless you use explicit language to exclude that possibility.

I'm not sure if Welsh conversation style is the same, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't. I suspect that the majority of people reading your original post would assume you were asking politely for a code. Other nations have different, more literal, conversation styles.

For example, if on a bus or train you asked someone if they minded if you sat down next to them, you're not actually asking what their opinion on you sitting there is. You're actually demanding that the entitled moron moves their bag out of the way. We just dress up requests as questions in order to sound polite.

Well I messed that up by poor use of the English language. But it sounded right in my head but wrong in written form. I am peeved by the comments, but only because I was caught out.

I can't have an opinion...I don't b****y know what a BF code is...and more precisely BF.

When you join the 'Club' you can give a code to 'friends/family',then they get a discount and you get a further discount as well,I think 🙂

Si je l'avais écrit dans mon français d'écolier ça n'aurait pas 😃

Why would you think it wasn't OK???BF would not give you a 10 pound voucher when sharing your code..Its a good form of cheap advertising for them..BUSBY.
