My daughter & son-in-law bought a Chausson Coachbuilt Motorhome a year ago.
They have bought a wind out awning/ canopy to have fitted.

It was booked in with a company to be fitted but they refused because the Truma vent (electric & diesel) for the heating and hot water is on the same side as the Hab door, which is obviously the side the awning is to be fitted.

They have said if a safari room was fitted it would be dangerous, so refused to fit. This seems to be a very bad design fault by Chausson as the majority of motorhomes have awnings fitted.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Looks to me like they are in one or more of the following conditions:
Don't want the work
Seriously misinformed
Talking out of their...

Or am I!

Relevant thread here:

My Truma vent is on the same side as the awning. Carthago clearly aren't concerned by the issue. There's always more than enough airflow under my canopy. They could do F1 aerodynamic testing under it.

ask somebody else to fit it or it's easy enough to DiY with some guidance and 2 people to do the lifting. Not heavy but bloody awkward job to do single handed

Thanks for your replies

An awning may be OK to fit on the same side as the Trauma vent, but to fit anything with more than two sides could well be fatal.

Just google the words "tent" & "carbon monoxide" and see how many hits you get with very sad stories of people that die this way.

I'd totally agree with the company.
I'd not fit any awning that could be enclosed to the same side of a motorhome as the boiler exhaust unit.

If you find someone that will fit it, take a very good look at their insurance and liability documents, as the survivors may need to make a very substantial claim.

I had the same issue with our Hymer, took it to the dearly departed Johns Cross and as fridge vents by hab door they wouldn’t sell me safari room/awning due to inherent dangers…it hadn’t crossed my mind previously. I resolved it by getting a free standing inflatable room from Decathlon that doesn’t seal against the MH.

A canopy (awning) is fine. It's the enclosed space of a full awning that can be dangerous.
Yes I know. But that isn’t what they have asked to have fitted. It’s just a wind out awning.

Most safari rooms are about as airtight as my grans old outside toilet .

Most caravans have fridge vents on the door side, don’t know anyone who thought it was a problem putting up an awning, we certainly didn’t. Seen many people cook on gas inside vans, awnings and kitchen tents with no problem. CO deaths in tents are usually due to disposable bbqs.

This is the problem vent.
Only looking to fit an Awning, no intention of fitting a safari room or sides.

It looks a bit tight at the top for fitting an awning. Is that a window or a fridge vent?
