Autotrail Frontier spare wheel cover marking rear gel coat

I took off my spare wheel cover today to clean underneath and check the wheel and tyre and noticed that the bottom of the cover was wearing a groove on the gel coat on both sides. I read something about this on the forum recently but cannot find it. I need to make a gap between the cover and the motorhome at this point or I can imagine it will eventually make two holes!
Has anyone else had the same problem, or a similar one, and found a solution?

i'd just use armaflex sticky insulation tape on the bodywork where it touches.

gus-lopez Thanks Gus. You gave me an idea. I have ordered thin neoprene strip 3mm and will attach it with double sided exerior tape I already have.

I had that problem on our Tracker I fitted some self adhesive rubber draughty excluder around it and that worked well

It was me that found this out but I'm also going to buy the door boot edging

I too had this problem on my previous van (Mohawk). The way it was rectified was to replace the factory fitted wheel cover seal with a softer compound extruded rubber seal. That cured it.

So wheel cover fixed and completed and I have to admit that the edging from ebay was and is very good

Also added some L shaped brackets to keep it away from the van body

To be honest I thought all the autotrail spare wheel covers had that edging fitted as standard?

Nope only fitting to the top half and the bottom half isn't which then becomes warn and sharp and cuts into the body of the van and makes holes

This is also the same on the newer model of autotrail where the black edging is on the top of the wheel cover
