My radio ham neighbour bought my attention to these clamps to attach masts, flagpoles etc to the side of the van.
Knowing there are some radio types on here and lots of people like to fly flags I thought the link might be useful.

Not just the stress. If there is even a light breeze my wife would hear it in the night. No guessing who would have to get up and take it down.

Just a bit of lateral thinking.......................why not make a clamp so you can attach the pole to your wheel clamp ?

I would think twice about using these. I still have a a couple of sets of these and the 3 cup versions that I used to use for lifting shop plate glass windows into place when I was a shop fitter many moons ago.
It is very likely that the suction these produce could deform or detach your aluminium skin from the insulation layer.

I often thought about asking a Moho/car dealer if they would sell me one of those ‘parking’ plates with a flagpole attached to it. As I never really needed one I never did. Mike

If you look around the stands selling flags and poles at shows none of them have pole brackets.
They have 3ft/4ft steel rods, usually re-bar, pushed into the ground with a pole slipped over it containing 1/2 dozen flags flapping about and they can be there all weekend at least without falling over.
Why bother fixing to your van risking possible damage.
OK, it wouldn't work for a ham antenna but just for flags, an easy solution!

If its a 'must have' situation, the glass suckers work fine on the glass windows of the cab. I sometimes use them for one end of a washing line.

I am a radio ham and used to have a telescopic mast which I fixed to the bike rack using u bolts, this was very stable, worked well and was easy to fit and remove.

Personally I wouldn't want a flag pole with flags on it attached to the van.
The amount of torque forces involved on a windy day will do no favours to the vans structure no good.
Not so bad if its just a pole with lights on.

Just my opinion obviously :)

11yrs, but many years a tugger.
A flagpole attached to the van will kick up a right stink at night. We have a ladder up the back of ours which is just the other side of the bed and on a windy night, with the flagpole cable tied to it, the noise is just something else, it must be using the interior as an amplifier. Only ever did it once. :xblink: We now use the 4ft glass fibre pole banged in the ground.

A radio antenna would be OK, I guess, because nothing flaps about.

You need to fashion ( or have fashioned by a ‘smithy) a medium sized L shaped plate than can be driven over
This then becomes a base for lots of things:- Flags, aerials, dog leads ,bike chains etc etc

We have 4 flags we have up during the day, take them down at night because of the noise.

I buggy our flagpole to one of the uprights on our bike rack.

Ooops, should be bungee

Your van will then act as a great ‘sound box’ but if doesn’t disturb you crack on!

Certainly wouldn’t do it on ours; just too much noise.

Surely it's the done thing to lower the flag at sunset. :xsmile:
Bugler's are an optional extra. :xrofl:

Listen you, ClarkyTypePerson.

The reason the Union flag is lowered at sunset is to indicate to troops that the fight for the day is over and that they may rest. However as I am toooooo old to be in any fights, except Funster gatherings, then I am allowed to keep my flag flying at all times, provide I illuminate it at night. I carry a 500w flood especially for the purpose and power it through the night, until sunrise, with my on-board 5.5kW Onan. Loads of people come out at all sorts of hours to see the spectacle and I get all sorts of suggestions as to how to improve things.
