The problem…
My van battery is not being charged from the charger when on hook up. The hab batteries are fine and being charged.
Thanks

Do you have a switch on your panel to tell which battery to charge? IE leisure or engine

Just check them with a multimeter. No need to take them off
Exactly this.

Put it into continuity mode (the one that beeps when you touch the multimeter probes together) and then put a probe on the nut on either side of each fuse. They should all beep and if one doesn't then you know where the problem lies.

You can just buy a new fuse and pop it in, but fuses normally blow for a reason so there's possibly something else wrong somewhere.

I’ve done what you advised and there all ok. I’ve checked and even changed the van battery charger… again all ok
The problem started just before Christmas 24.
We were away in Seahouses in December, and the van battery went flat whilst we parked up for the the night before going onto a pitch with EHU.
Van battery was dead the next morning, lucky we got a jump start off my brother in law with his car. I did the normal thing, leaving the jump leads in position for 5 mins.. all ok, instant start, and drove 2 miles to the pitch all hooked up all ok. 5 days later it was time to go back home.. van battery dead again. A quick call to the BIL again and we were on our journey back home, with no issues.
Back home, I ordered a new battery as the van was still on the original (9yrs old)
I fitted the new battery with the advice connecting another power source, so it never lost power completely, which I did. New battery on, and that’s when the problems started. The van has not been off the drive since the new battery was fitted, but it’s getting a run this weekend.
We will see how it performs

Is the new battery holding charge ?
I would be starting it up on the driveway and making sure everything works beforehand 👍😉

You haven’t told us much about your van - make, model, year, whether you have solar panels, a battery master etc!

Most vans have stuff drawing a small amount of power all the time so the cab battery usually needs something to replace that power draw. A top up via a home hookup every week or something.

If the new battery isn't being charged and hasn't been touched since fitting I'm sorry to say you'll need yet another new battery.
The parasitic discharges, alarm, radio memory etc, will flatten a battery in 2 or 3 weeks.
Once fully discharged it's usually just a plastic box with some lead plates inside

Have you checked the inline fuse on the red wire. Left side of photo in protective cover???

Van is in our back garden, plugged in to ehu. Battery charger is usually turned off if we are not using the van for a while, summer the solar panels do the job.
Cheers

I’ll see what happens this weekend. There’s a few of us going to Thirsk races, so I’ve got back up 👍

The EHU & solar will charge the hab batteries but unless you have a battery master or something equivalent the cab battery is obviously not getting a charge and so goes flat after alarm radio etc have slowly drained it!

According to your display the engine battery is dead. Have you got a owners manual ? Have a read to see if/ which fuse supplies the engine charging from control panel.
Good luck with that ours has a fuse panel underneath the seat that is about 9 inches from the wall facing the wall 😳 What would take 5 minutes to check all 20 fuses takes about half hour feeling putting them back in place along with using a mirror. Stupid French Bas- - ds

We have a fuse box along side the charger as in my post above #25 no idea what they do that’s Lisa’s job to read up on - I only checked what I was told😉

Have you measured the voltage at the vehicle battery?

If there is voltage then the problem will be with the control panel/unit either not being connected or a fuse in that area.

I expect your habitation electrics are the CBE system and , if so , there may be a separate module marked -Boite Relaise Securite - which will contain fuses , between the starter battery and the CBE fusebox/PSU.

It seems that your new vehicle battery may actually be flat at 0v and therefore scrap.

An intelligent charger would not try to charge a battery with 0v and explain why the readings are what you see.

You need to know what the current state is. Easiest way to know is do the ignition lights come on when you turn the key? If so you have voltage and need to carry on with diagnostics. If nothing then it’s simply the battery that needs replacing.
