Good evening,
Me and the missus are in the MH near Toulouse as we are heading down to Spain for the winter sun for the next 4 months. We are both 53. Having a few glasses of wine in the van as after 4pm and France has shut down (we love France)

We are are having a good natured discussion/ argument about the right age to retire and enjoy the motorhome. I say now is good why we have our health and can do it. The OH believes it is for people of a certain age. To be fair to the boss, most people we have seen on our travels in a motorhome are 60+.

No offence meant but what are your views to settle this one?

Earlier you can afford it the better, you never know what's around the corner.

IMHO the most likely reason that most are 60+ is it takes that long in life to get enough in the coffers to make it possible to retire full time . Certainly that was our case.

IMO if you can afford to follow " your dream" whatever that is you should do it as soon as you can.

one of the main things about retirement and health is keeping active and busy doing interesting stuff and meeting people, preferably interesting ones...

its all about how you see your life priorities..

you can allows choose another dream if you get fed up of this one...

might be you dont really retire but work in the summers to afford going away in winter.
lots do it. all ages . might be you already have a payed up property thats ok . could rent it out.
some work on holiday camps , i did that for two summers in the 70,s then went off surfing france spain portugal morocco in the winters . years later i came back and drove trucks for the summers .
lots of choices out there.

Finish working as soon as you possibly can I did at 56 best thing we ever did .
We were only into retirement one year and my partner was diagnosed with cancer .
Thankfully she has beaten this cursed disease after a year of hell with 6 rounds chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy but it makes you realise life is precious

I wish I was in your position and able to retire so no you are not to young you are very fortunate to be able to so just enjoy it while you can I’m 66 and still need to work on at least another 2years but still enjoy the 3 weeks holiday each year so good luck for the many years you have ahead of you

Im 28

I'm under 40 and the other half is under 50 and we're about to join the gang. Not retiring yet but taking a year out and then will work flexibley. I want to do as much as possible now whilst we are fit and our parents are all healthy too.

If you can afford it now, go for it. Work gets in the way of my life, but I have to work. I can do eight months work and have four months off, spending all the money we save in the eight months but we enjoy it. Life is not a rehearsal this is it, enjoy it while you can. (y)

As soon as you can afford it I reckon, im 55 and the missus 41

Do it as soon as possible.
It's never too early, travel before you are restricted by Drs appointments.....
? ?

Fellow motorhomers used to say we were too young 7 years ago, when we retired and started on the road, don't get that anymore ?

I retired at 58 which was the earliest I could afford, but by then I had been motorhoming for 30 years, retirement is good but not necessary. We managed 5 weeks away and around 40 weekends each year. More than we can manage now, grandkids can be a bigger tie than kids sometimes.

Although we are now both in our early 70’s we started motorhoming aged 34.
