Come to Germany! It's great for motorhoming/van life.
How useful is the Vicarious "All the Aires Spain and Portugal" for someone who doesn't expect to spend much time on the coast? (I'd love to see their "Locater Map" to see if there are Aires where we intend to go.)

The Spanish and Portuguese Aires are free, I take it. Or is there a charge at some of them?

isn't that what campercontact and all the other similar apps are for?

We bought it when we travelled there in 2018, but found Camper Contact and Park4Nite far more useful. Nowhere near as comprehensive as the France versions.

We bought it a couple of years ago didn't find it useful as very little English explanation, and lots of the sites looked a bit rough.

There are free aires but expect to pay in many places, especially around the coast. In popular areas the cost might be €10 to €15 a night.

As suggested have a look at the apps and you can see what is available where you want to go.

Here's Campercontact's view of aires in one area.

And now showing only the free ones, that's free to stay, there might be a charge for water.

Which still shows plenty of places. But many of those are just car parks with no services for water or dumping.

These are free places with services.

But CC also gives a grading. These are the ones above graded 7/10 or above.

But it isn't so simple as some aires only have a few reviews and only then by miserable sods who take offence at things which don't bother me. You need to read the reviews.

The advantage of the Vicarious books is they have already weeded out the no-hopers. If you are new to this game I suggest buying one but look at the apps as well. :)

I bought it for the list of LPG garages in spain and portugal as well as the aires

Anyone know when the latest edition comes out, I asked Vicarious at the beginning of the year they replied possibly Nov/Dec 2019

I found a lot of the Vicarious books aire reviews to be well out of date and their reviews are quite judgemental. We haven’t been on one of their highly rated (orange headed) aires that we have found worth staying at. Having said that though, it can be useful if used in conjunction with some of the apps, which generally have more pictures and a few more reviews for you to consider.

We use Campercontact app but now more often than not Park4Night. They don't cost a lot and you can easily search for ones in the area where you are rather than have to look at a book, we have the POIs on our tablet which we use as a sat nav so can look them up (off-line) and see photos (if we connect to the internet) along with reviews etc, then can instruct our sat nav to take use there via an in-app link.

As for the 'All the aires' books, they are pretty much out of date as soon as they are published and don't usually have anything like all the aires in despite the title (a bugbear of mine!).

We have the Aires book and found that 3 listed in Spain had closed a couple of years ago. And this is a 2019 book! Campercontact is better. Shan't buy them again.

We have always used the French All the Aires but now also use CC. The only advantage of the books is that they do give directions. Our satnav has the CC aires but on several occasions has not proved very accurate and has taken us down unpaved tracks to end up in a field.

We used campercontact and park4night in Spain, but found it difficult to find recommended aires that compared to France ( although some were brilliant) next time I will buy 'all the aires Spain and Portugal' and see how that works, the more options the better.

Gave up with books many years ago found them a waste of time so out of date and only have a few of the Aires in them.

Mainly use Camper Contact with Park4Night as a backup. I find Park4Night a bit of a pain OK if you have a small van but nearly every time we use it takes us to places you can't get a larger van into.

The Spanish and Portuguese Aires are free, I take it. Or is there a charge at some of them?
Northern Spain, Northen & Central Portugal most are free with free servicing.

The Camper Contact app is about €5 a year, you can use it online for free, if using online register or you don't get full access.

A couple of trips we have done in the last year through northern Spain & Portugal, I always put up pics of the Aires with coordinates.
