Suddenly, in the last 15 minutes the helpful alerts button has disappeared from the menu bar. When I receive alerts they are now flagged on my username.

Is this to be permanent state of affairs, if so I will miss the simple effort of running the cursor over the alerts button to see what alerts I have received?

That happened with my ipad about a week ago. Nothing has changed on my work computer though.

Mine went that way about 10 days ago but only on my i pad and not on my samsung tablet

I noticed that but if I turn the tablet to portrait mode the alert label appears - but if in landscape it vanishes.

Mine disappeared from my ipad but not my iphone about a week ago and hasn't come back.

I don't understand computers at all so I wont attempt to offer an explanation

Well,blow me down with a feather! Mine disappeared about a month ago,now I can see it on portrait mode. 'Tis all a mystery to me these ere compoooters.

My ipad has been like it a week and its a bit of a pain & i always use the ipad on landscape.

My phone is unaffected

Me too but as I'm on a mini, using it in portrait mode is just means too many typos from fat finger syndrome - it's already difficult enough trying to highlight or cut & paste stuff

Have you by any chance increased the text/reading size of the web page? If so the Alerts and other buttons can disappear depending on how large you go ... try reducing it and see if it re-appears.

Nope still same font/text/reading size. It happened mid post, I was replying to a thread and when I went back to home page it had gone.

Ah, I know what it is now ... you've only got the 'night shift' alert turned on, not the 'day-time' alert ... the reason for this is that it saves the resources on for forum for all the day-time grumpies who make a LOT of demands data-wise!!!

The upside is you obviously aren't classed as a 'day-time grumpy'!

I can help you there @Chris, accept that computers are female and it all makes sense.

it's all a big mystery to me on this forum sometimes I cant log in then I can log in the buttons disappear then every thing is normal well as normal as can be expected.
So not going to tempt fate or I probably wont be abil to get on for a few weeks the every one will think I hade buggerd off.
