Yes it's very sad to lose a child. I lost mine at 19 hours and didn't even get to see her but I know that her life wouldn't have been worth living. That was over 40 years ago but it was a blessing in disguise. I still think of her most days and visit her grave on "special birthdays". Next one will be in a few years time.

We were in the same position 41 years ago. He passed away at a day old. My mum, a devout Christian told me after that she had prayed for him. If he was ok he would survive, but that if he was to have severe health problems he would not.

Got as far as end of page one. Then decided not to read on!!. My take with alcohol, as with life, be reasonably moderate, Respect the views of others, (even if I do not agree) and live and let live, So far I have made it beyond my Mid 70`s, which with a familial history of Strokes is not too bad. I drink something alcoholic most days of the week, but occasionally not at all for days. however I virtually live on coffee, Umpteen mugs per day, which is allegedly as bad?. SWMBO can put away half a bottle of Red a night, always evenings, However, as she says, is it any worse than the "pain killing" drugs she is prescribed in daily doses?, so she cut them back to the bare minimum and uses the alcohol instead!. She sleeps as well if not better, and does not have the issues with her diverticular that the Opioids where giving. In her case something of a "win,win".

I know we all talk silly at times but it does concern me the amount of alcohol that some people say they get through, whether at home or away. I don't drink but I notice that people get through quite a bit of wine/beer/spirits etc without thinking about it

When our new entry recruits come to me, we have a chat etc and I ask about hobbies and interests. Many of them state they enjoy drinking and socialising. My standard reply is that it is not a hobby; it’s a way of life. ?

Too much, especially according to the arbitrary figures put out by the government. I never get drunk or have a hangover, but do drink beer if its hot, wine with dinner and sometimes a brandy after.
I have tried a lot of the alcohol free beers and wine but found them all inadequate. If someone could produce some that tasted like the real thing I would have them I'm not interested in alcohol as such.

There is no way on this planet I want to be trapped the way my Mum is and if MS did it's worst I don't want it.
I sat opposite a couple at a BDS AGM dinner when I was waiting for a diagnosis and the lady could do nothing except slowly lift a fork, she could not cut up her own food, she could not speak, she could not remember anything. Her husband apologised, saying that she had MS, it's wasn't long after that, that I found out I have it...….so no thanks, I have no fear of death, I would only be moving on anyway.

i to have ms progressive they say but i can do very little about it except carry on and live life to my potential i will carry on and enjoy my motorhome travels as long as i can,

One thing that may help me personaly cut down is the amount of micro brewery ales around these days. I used to be like a beer tent walrus, couldn't resist new ale. Then I started getting weird gut problems and I recon it was the yeasts these brewers used. When I think back now... Ruddles county, Directors etc, good strong ales, none of them upset me and I really did try hard to get upsets, but as soon as I went onto small scale ales etc, bang, felt rough again. I have to drink poxy Budweiser now as there’s no yeast in it so I feel like I’ve halfway packed it in anyway.

I think there is a problem brewing with brewing due to yeast problems.

For anyone tempted to become an alcoholic by this thread...

If you ever want to kill yourself and die happy, I would recommend my old weakness that I drank for donkey’s years until they insisted on chilling Guinness down by four degrees.
A well prepared pint of drought Guinness (not the stone cold crap they pour today) with a large brandy, mixed with a single apricot brandy as a chaser served in a proper scotch tumbler. That is the nicest drink flavour combination I have ever had. It is just utterly delicious and easy to do that six or seven or more times in a session, bloody expensive too, so beware..

Evenings it’s a G&T for me & a small whiskey for him the one small glass of wine with supper-one ordinary bottle of wine lasts us 2 evenings!

I used to drink alcohol but these days I don’t. The reason is, I feel much better without it. I never have a hangover, I don’t get an upset stomach, I don’t get a headache and I can remember how much I am enjoying myself.

Surprisingly, I’ve found that I enjoy my life more without it. When I did drink, I thought that life wouldn’t be as much fun without alcohol. I was wrong.

We drink more whilst travelling in the motorhome, this wouldn’t be an issue but we are doing about 9 months of the year on the road loving life and discovering new places.
However it does make you think about how much we both drink and I know between us it’s usually 5 bottles of wine, a slab of beer/cider, a few snifters of spirits or a nice bottle of sherry a week.
I’m 48 he’s 34 but I seem to have a better recovery time, metabolism I reckon.

We both like to drink and we both enjoy it.
My doctor would say too much booze cut down but I no longer smoke and have reduced my red meat whilst increasing fish,vegetable and fruit consumption so bugger it we are happy so cheers ?.

I just surreptitiously discard my empty bottles in Minxy Girls and QFours recycle bins. How fortuitous.

That sounds similar to what we knew a "Brandy Squares" :- Brandy, Ginger liqueur, Ginger ale and ice. In Cape town in the 1970`s.

When we are "on holiday" in the motorhome as in on a campsite with lots of our (mainly Welsh which is our excuse) friends we party hard. Usually in the afternoon a couple of folks will come round to our MH or we to theirs, beer will be taken. After tea someone may be doing a meal for us all, more beer taken. Then we may all head out to a local pub where we help the local economy big time. Easy do 7 or 8 pints per day. And I will say that the enjoyment we all get from being in party mode must have some health benefits to counteract the "badness" of the alcohol.

But at home it's rare that we do more than two or three beers all week.

I won't drink the night before driving if abroad and it would only be shandy if in UK.
