I replaced the airbag module a few weeks ago in time for my Peugeot Boxer mot and thought this information could help someone having the same fault.
After a lot of research and watching many u tube videos on the subject and contacting Peugeot Dealers for price and availability, I contacted Coastal Motorhomes of Ringwood, Dorset.
If you’re prepared to remove & replace the module ( 3 nuts & 2 electrical connections ) they will proxy align the new unit and you’re on your way.
I paid £235 for the module which included the proxy alignment, alright we had to take a trip to Dorset but who doesn’t like a jolly !! We found a lovely CL Sabines Farm with a PH nearby so we had a really nice time.

Very similar and mentioned in lots of other threads, I bought a new unit from "Partsworld" lucky for me their depot is only 2 miles away, cost was about same price you quoted.
Self fitted and then a local garage did the proxi alignment £40. (y) (y)

I'm now in the airbag error club.
I'd like to decide between reprogramming or replacing the ECU
Why is your new unit is less likely to throw the error than your existing unit (re-programmed)? What's to stop the same problem with the new one?
Thanks

The newer units are manufactured with sturdier components .

That's incredibly kind of you, Sexy, but I have an awkward Relay so probably not compatible with the software.
In fact I struggle to connect with Lexia/diagbox. In this instance I was able to read the fault code on the airbag ECU but I cannot connect with the engine management.

Back to my point about reprogram or replace, is it not about software Vs hardware problems? Pretty sure it's the software in this case.

Edit
If I buy the unit with the correct part number, why would it come with better components?

New units are British made unlike the less reliable older units made in Poland or somewhere. The new units are a lot less likely to throw a red light if your battery is a bit low.

Interesting, thanks for that. Worth investigating the origin and manufacture date of a part. Then it will need proxy alignment, I presume.
Edit, does the part number need to match exactly?

Not sure about part numbers but the date on the ECU should be 2020 or later for it to be one of the newer more robust types. Proxy alignment will be required I assume.

When I spoke to Carl at Northern Autotech when my airbag ecu went west last October, he told me that the newer, more stable ecu's were dated from January 2024.

Typical I changed mine in 2023 with a new ecu that was dated 2023, at the time there was talk that they were more reliable.

I seem to have joined your airbag ECU club.
I had the problem of airbag and seatbelt light being on as well as the odometer flashing. checking various sources I decided the ECU was at fault. I sent mine for repair and (£160 and 2 days later) it was returned with the advice to check the battery (only 2 years old) and grounding wires. I did both. I replaced the ECU and all was well. Lights went out and odometer stopped flashing. A friend was supposed to call round with his ODB reader but didn't and is now away on holiday. However, I now have the same problem only 2 months later. I'm quite happy to tackle mechanical problems but electrics/software leave me scratching my head.
SexyThexy Is your kind offer only usable to those that know what a proxy alignment is or should I seek professional help?
tuckerstravel How long did you have to wait?

There are posts on here to show how to use the software to perform a scan and proxy alignment I am a thicko and I managed it.
you are more than welcome to have a play and see how you get on.
If you want to have a go please pm me your address and I will get it in the post to you, it came back from another Fun member last week, so it is ready to go.

If the warning light went away, then it was fixed.

It didn't need proxy aligning because it was the original chip.

Now, like many others on here, it has failed again.

Time for a new one. Proxy aligning won't fix it, the chip has failed.

I think the earlier (pre 2018) are German TRW units and the later more reliable units are Vietnamese

Hi, not sure what you meant, “how long did you have to wait”
Although I do feel a bit slow today🤣

You are fortunate to have a good local garage.

My Fiat professional garage want £188 just to read the code for an engine fault.

Sorry, reading it back, I wasn't very clear . I meant what was their lead time, how far ahead did you book?
However, I contacted them and am booked in next week (provided their stock arrives) £205 plus £25 for the Proxy alignment.

Just had mine replaced by a Peugeot dealership as I was going away
£180 for diagnostic check
£180 per hour labour
In total including the new ECU and VAT etc just over £700

Well done,👍 not so far to travel for you, we made it a really nice trip to Dorset and saved money compared to a Peugeot dealer.
Win! Win! 🥳

Here's a weird one. I posted a couple of weeks back that the airbag light came on. I thought it was due to the vehicle battery being low. It's been on for weeks. No MOT in the isle of man so decided I would sort it after our holiday in France

I just noticed. It's gone. How can that be? Maybe it's the gallic charm. Been gone for at least 2 days now .

So. It's still off. I was hoping for some expert views on how I could get the airbag light on for 2 weeks and then suddenly it disappears. Anyone any clue. Anyone had similar experiences.

When I was investigating my own fault, a poster (sorry, I forget who) said an engineer had told them it can reset of its own accord after awhile.
Sadly not in my case.
