Just planning the fitting of air assist suspension.

Is it worth having dual gauges on the dashboard and a compressor switch? How often do you need to check and adjust pressures? Is fitting in an external locker sufficient?
 
Speaking from experience, a couple of advantages of a compressor are...

Quickly raising the rear end of the van before boarding a ferry. And also when reversing in to a parking spot where you need to hang the rear over a kerb.

It was also handy for easily adjusting when the scooter was attached to the back too.

On my old van, I also used the compressor for a quick and easy levelling aid too, worked surprisingly well.

My new van came with AlKo air gauges in the passenger foot well which required a manual pump. I had those removed and a compressor fitted with a switch next to the steering wheel.

So yes, it'll add a bit to the cost of install, but well worth it in my experience.

Also, don't know if you've got anyone lined up to fit this for you, but if not, you're probably not that far from AS Air Suspension in Warrington, who quite a few people on here would fully recommend (myself included) (y)
 
It appears to depend on the person and their requirements.

I questioned this a lot before buying and fitting. I ended up buying a system with compressor and the option of altering whilst driving. This is an option that I use a fair bit now. When the roads are rough I lower the pressure, when pushing on whilst motorway driving will increase it. If going where things look a bit rutted, and uneven I raise the pressure and raise the rear overhang for safety. I even use it to level when parking up, and drop when at home to aid water running off the roof to avoid puddles.

I mounted ours using the two gauge and compressor switch panel mounted in the space just above the fuses cover.

I drop the pressure in the air bags if the van is not going to be used for a while.
I also find it convenient to have the controls to hand to adjust the pressures to suit the road conditions and ride comfort if for instance if the side winds increase to make the van more stable.

Our hab door is near the rear of our van and higher than we would like.
We have the E&P levelling system fitted so if I drop the pressure in the air bags, when the levelling system operates it uses the front jacks first and this initially pushes the rear of the van down and in most cases make the step height a little lower.

Just spoken to hubby - highly recommends for ease to check and to adjust when parking up/ moving off/ adjusting for weather/ ramps and carrying heavier load at back of van. Go for it!
 
Those that have self fitted the compressor and gauges x was it a difficult job? Where did you get the parts? We have the gauges in the passenger footwell with a manual pump at the moment. TIA

Had VB air suspension fitted to our PVC about six months ago and have so far completed three long ish trips. After initial set up I've checked pressure three times (before each trip) and made a minor adjustment to one side once. Guess it all depends on what you want to do with it! :)

So my answer to your question would a no.

This post has just prompted me to think. I have the Connection and Gauge out side (Only Rear Air). It could be beneficial to have the whole issue inside and possibly connected to onboard compressor. Any one have info on potential after-market suppliers?.

I have no knowledge of them and there are other suppliers. I just happened to be browsing hat page as you posted.
