Hi folks ,I'm looking for a little information on my fridge performance, for example should a fridge generally work equally well on Gas as it would on mains hook up. I ask, because I'm suspicious that mine isn't doing so well on gas. Thanks in anticipation for any information or advice, .Simon

Hi Simon

Sometimes the performance is not good on gas and it can be down to problems with the burner or the chimney/flue, all parts of the system that the electric side don't use of course. If it hasn't had a service for a while that might sort it out. It may even benefit from having a fan fitted in the top vent outside to promote a bit of air circulation especially in the warm weather.

Thanks Martin for your prompt reply, I'll have a look at the burner today .

Hi
If you clean the burner use something like fishing line or blow it through.
I understand the hole is machined.
Also the flue may need cleaning.
There is a spiral insert that need to be careful of.
Might be worth checking out youtube.

Thanks Sue, much appreciated. Will do that.

We have the thetford fridge & it works better on gas, in fact we often get ice in the fridge. In warm weather try turning it down a bit to 2 perhaps. Put a thermometer inside & experiment with the settings, leaving it a few hours at a time.

We find the same as DP+JAY, our AES works better on gas. Even so, in extreme temperatures (35C+), we need the twin fans we fitted to the top vent to get the temperature down to ´normal´.

I'v cleaned all around the burner and the jet is completly clean and free to blow through. and I'v got a nice blue flame, but I'm still disappointed with its performance when running on gas. I've removed the spiral baffle in the flue and thoroughly cleaned the flue with a pipe brush. However I'm surprised the the flue finishes just about two inches above where it emerges from the boiler area and not carried up and out through the upper vent, as I've seen in some smaller . fridges. is this a design fault or has it been misplaced at some time during servicing . Any advice would be much appreciated. Simon.

Hi DP & JAY, if you've got the same type of fridge, could you please tell me if your flue go all the way up and out through the upper vent, or does it stop short by about 12 inches as mine does. I'm suspicious that part of the upper flue is misplaced in mine. Thanks in anticipation, Simon.

Usually the top of the flu seems short when you have tech tower as the top vent is behind the oven.

I don’t quite get that Martin, I can’t see what it’s got to do with an oven, as I don’t have an oven.

OK if you had a tech tower oven it would be on top of the fridge freezer and the vent would be up there behind the oven as well making the flu lower down relative to a fridge and freezer only.

If yours is fridge freezer the flu top will be lower relative to the top vent than a fridge only would be, as far as I know the flu is a fixed length with the looseT piece top on so not much chance of it being put together wrong at some time.

Ours is better on gas too.

That's my concern, I don't have a T piece on top .

Yes it does stop well short.

just having a look through this thread.. I've only had one three way fridge and that's in the current van.. its an aes fridge and I keep a fridge thermometer in it so I'm usually keeping an eye on how its doing... one thing I have noticed and its well enough documented but I hadn't realised quite how much it does effect the fridge temperature and thats the level..
im not fussy and don't normally bother with levellers... and even though I can hear the fridge burner cutting in and out... if its not well level the temperature rises in the fridge..
easy enough to keep an eye on if you stick a thermometer in the fridge
just something to bear in mind if you think your fridge isn't as cold as you would expect...

I've not seen a fridge flue like yours. It looks as though there's a metal plate covering the flue outlet. Or am I missing something?

I think it is a deflector to guide the exhaust away from the woodwork. There is a gap between the plate & the flue.

Just out of interest what type of fridge is that? as a few of us have not seen that design of flue.
