We (jumar and myself) live in Spain. We now have a "bolthole" apartment, twixt the mountains of Sierra Espuña and the med coast of Puerto Mazarron.

But ... we still have many motorhoming trips away. Local(ish) in autumn/winter/spring, and in the summer months, further afield.

In the summer I often start a thread, but, I soon give up, due to lack of inerest, maybe? to people being away on their own summer trips, and not needing info of places to go. Any other reasons, please say!

So ... I'm happy, and willing to post, a "Year in Spain" (with maybe a dip over the borders into France and Portugal).

Any interest, starting from now onwards??

I always read the travel threads, just don’t comment much. More the quiet, thoughtful type but really appreciate the info others gift.

Please just pop an odd word of support/or not on someone's thread. It's soul destroying to think you're talking to yourself 😊.

Even negative comments are, sometimes, better than silence.

So, in case of some interest, a bit of our background. Condensing it will be a challenge.

We've always been outdoor, camping, people. In early 1994, in Font Romeu, camping in a tent, for a running competition, we happened to be invited to look inside a campervan of a fellow competitor. The seeds were sown then, and on our return to the UK we set about the purchase of a transit van (exchanged against our Escort car) to be transformed I to a campervan by a Manchester company, beginning with the letter L.

I, too like the read these. I don't post because I feel I am new to all this and don't want to look stupid. But rest assured they're read. Keep them coming, Cheers

This was 1994. By 1996, due to a health problem to one of us (Lyme) disease and the then, sudden, demise of my lovely horse, Indian, we realised we didn't need bricks and mortar any longer.

We bought a caravan to tow behind the poor transit (non turbo, no power steering, it suffered in silence 😂) and in December 1998 we headed over to Spain/Portugal for some months over the winter. Our first foray over the water in winter.

Well, I know I can't post all our previous 20+ years of travelling on here, but I can say that we think we had the best years.

We met some lovely Spanish people in 1998, most of whom are still our good friends.

We introduced a lot of them into the joy of motorhoming and travelled on two separate occasions in Scotland and (the area of tiny roads, their words) the Lake District, where we, as the lead vehicle, lost our wing mirror to a tractor trailer 😡

Please continue as I love holiday threads, I always post one even if it doesn’t get many comments I’m sure it will help at least one person. It’s funny as some members post they’re heading off and get 100s of comments even before they’ve left, others don’t receive any but I’m sure plenty do read them.

We dabbled, in a Brit company, in a mobile home park, that went pear-shaped, and then cut all ties.

We've now jumped to 2009.

We had a trip to Canada/Australia (2002) and NZ 2009 and a nice time after then in Europe.

We did trips to Slovenia/Croatia, Poland, Germany, Norway (see my signature) and were happy pottering, until Covid.

We DO feel we had the best years in Spain and Portugal up to about 2010. We could pull up and park overnight anywhere in those days.

We had a brilliant 3 weeks helping out at the World Masters Orienteering in Portugal in 2008, with many of our friends there. In those days parking in a camper was welcomed!

Since Covid, we've mainly stayed in Spain, with a short foray into France and Font Romeu. We've found many lovely places to visit in Spain, with even more still to be discovered.
Please ask questions and I'll answer if I can 😂

Sooo, from yesterday afternoon, when we suddenly decided we could get on the road we left our golf view apartment (more about that later) and within 30 minutes we were moving. We needed LPG so, knowing of a place just off the A7 at Totana, we headed there. Road works (tarmaccing) sent us on a detour, and our our way back out we stumbled on a brand new motorhome parking area. Open for only a week, we unfortunately didn't stay to give them a boost, but Martin had a chat with the friendly ow er.

In our view it's suitable to use for a night whilst travelling along the A7 motorway, but to stay there ... not for us. But then we do have friends with farms in many parts of Totana 🤣

So my one year really starts here, alhough I can travel back in time if necessary.

Last night we parked in the Andalucian village of Velez Rubio.

As far as we can tell its a free area, with emptying services and fresh water further away at the side of a yellow building.

Now, we like to go emtb riding. I'd found a route on the Wikiloc app that was just right for us. Itwas posted in 2017, so we were aware there might be changes, but, apart from one detour around a private house, it was all good.

Some of the views we saw.

Bearing in mind we, in this part of Spain, are in a drought situation, there was still water running across our track once!

Please keep your threads going, always read them, just dont always comment, (reminder to one’s self) and as a fellow spanish resident with a Moho always looks at blogs like yours to see where to go next, we are currently away on day 42 of a 52 day planned trip and currently sat in the beautiful village of Loudenvielle, French side of the Pyrénées

We're staying here again tonight, riding again tomorrow from up the hill, at Velez Blanco (I've found a route that may, or may not, be within our (my) capabilities. It looks good, anyway.

This time last year I tried to ride something I shouldn't and ended up breaking my wrist. That kept us at home until the middle of a very hot July. I don't want to do the same again, this year 😨

Now, that would be of interest to us. We hope to leave Murcia early June, to do the Pyrenees, both Spanish and French side, before, heading west, slowly, to Galicia for the coolest weather.
