Just had this in an email from vicarious, not had acsi quite a few years now as I found I could useually get just as good a price by negotiation with the camp.
But reading the mail it says there are 400 less in it this year, anyone know why?

Not knocking acsi as I felt it was good value but not useing many sites it wasn't a lot of use for us.

If the prices keep going up £1 every year like they have it will soon be more money through ACSI. Not so much of a no brainer as it used to be, we use it 2 or 3 times a year so hardly worth it now.

Presumably sites feel they don't need to offer asci discounts as they get more with their normal rates. It will only work for them if they have a lot of spare pitches to fill and if taking asci fills some of them.

You can save the cost of ACSI in just a few nights ,,it's only about 18 quid delivered. Used ACSI in France coming down and saved that on a 7 nights for 6 deal. BUSBY.

The sites offering ACSI discounts we’ve come across seem to offer the same price if you just ask them. I’m not going to be renewing it for 2021.

Totally agree - I've saved as small fortune this summer in Italy and through France using it. It is still excellent value for money

As I said if you use campsites it's got to be worth it as the books themselves are worth having, but already got the books from a couple of years ago and as I said you can useually negotiate a reduction without being a member, but my question was why have 400 come out of it as it's not a small number is it.

As the number of motorhomes increase you would expect less discounts on sites to be available unless there's a corresponding increase in pitches available. I'm always a sceptic with discounts etc is it just because they're charging more in the first place and the discount brings it back to the a realistic price?

400 less!
I cannot think why but there again I was not able to be over there this year, so was not able to see the problem first hand.

I seem to recall ACSI take a hefty slice from the site fee. I cant remember how that worked admin wise (blame the old age) but that was the rumour. So OP could doing site owner a favour negotiating direct!

By coincidence l am just about to start looking at ACSI again l traditionally use Aires/Camper Stops etc but have noticed the increase in cost in Spain in particular and they are often too crowded prices are rising and facilities are basic to say the least.

Sites have to pay to be listed, several thousand euros each I believe. Perhaps with reduced tourism due to Covid this year some have opted out. I know a lot of small rural sites in France have been closing over the years as it was uneconomic to stay open. It may be true in other countries too. Changing patterns of holidaying.

I used it on my recent trip to Germany for 6 nights in one campsite. My saving was €50.00

That would very much be my view.

I agree, sites pay a significant sum to be listed in the ACSI discount guide.

The 2020 books list a total of 3,412 sites, so a reduction of 400 in 2021 still leaves 3,000.

A shame it's reduced, but still a decent number. And, as I recall, the number had been growing significantly year on year. Now turning the other way, no doubt as a result of the current economic situation.

We are quite big fans of the ACSI scheme and use it a lot.

You may sometimes get the same price but you won't get the free night offers though.BUSBY

That's a big drop in income for them so wonder if the book price will go up as well now, added together with the usual site price increase and less site availability they'll lose even more members.
They nearly went bust a few years ago, perhaps they'll achieve it this time 😏

Depends which country they are in,,doubt I will visit Holland or Denmark ,,not sunny enough for me.BUSBY.

Interesting marketing decision by ACSI to publicise that there are 400 fewer sites than last year.
I doubt that I would have noticed.
If you get the email it's in stand out blue writing , you can't miss it.

Never used it - I see you pay the £18.50 then pay for the 'app' - when Ilook on the app, it costs another £16.49 to unlock the full database, is this correct ?

There was no app when we were in it, just a couple of books and a paper map which I must say was very useful in finding campsites, but as for the reduction in price, that was shattered for us when we went to a site in at Maxime and they had a board outside the gate with lower prices on than were in the book

I think it is Vicarious Books, rather than ACSI, that has chosen to highlight there are 400 less sites included next year. Fair play to them for being upfront.

However, the price of the guide does appear to have increased significantly for 2021 - I reckon I paid about £13.50 from C&CC last year (not certain?). And Vicarious are selling the new one for £18.50 + postage (which I can find how much that is, without placing a completed order which is a bit frustrating).

I logged on and checked price before I posted.

Cos the sites are chocka any way.. ! They do not need ACSI to attract punters any more.. plus many sites are in trouble after this years lock down debacle and are not in a position to give ACSI the €2000+ fee.. ( Yes, I know that is an oxymoron of sorts but you get the idea )

No mate.. Sites pay a one off per annum fee

Renewed my combi-subscription a couple of weeks ago. Directly with ACSI : under 17 euros for discount card guides and map plus the app. I guess there will be a bit more for postage but still a good deal. Although some sites do have offers close to ACSI price there are many more especially at the "shoulder period" of late August early September ( and June early July) when ACSI gives a substantial saving. I f you use sites like we do then it pays for itself every year.

Only managed a month away this year and only used two sites. One isnt ACSI and the other gave us a bigger discount. Neither were anywhere near full. We only went to France this time. Big discounts we have had in Spain, but last year only stayed on a site for one night.

Not done any trips yet as we normally set off the end of October but we found ACSI to be invaluable to us but probably do 90% campsites and a few aires generally we would pass a sign and divert to the Aire maybe stop
or log it on the satnav for another time.
