I have the LED version of the Ducato headlamp, I wondered what these things are made from, and if it's worth £65 for a pair of plastic protectors to give them a fighting chance in the event of a stone strike. I would guess they're some form of tough plastic ?

since my two mirror strikes, and losing the corner off my over-cab skylight, I'm convinced that my van is going to 'headbutt' every moving object on the road !

I've got the same lights on mine, do you have a link to the covers you were looking at?

Guess it's your call on the cost of the protectors (say £60 - 70 the Pair) vs the cost of a headlamp (maybe around £150 - 200 each).
Suppose it's a bit like insurance!
We've got a set fitted to our X250 (2nd hand from a Funster changing their van(y)).

ps @RogerThat an option for you here.

Knowing what the price of new car parts used to be like, I'd be amazed if I got change from £400 quid on a headlight these days

You could very well be right!

I thought the LED DRL headlights on the x290s were about £450 each.... :o
I have bought a set of headlight protectors ;)

I've been driving since 1985 and not had a single headlight chip. (above average mileage too most years)
Waste of money.

For similar reasons I bought a set from the Vancomfort stand at the NEC. Saved postage, woo hoo!

The other reason for getting protectors would be not to stick beam blockers / deflectors on the actual headlights. :)

Another advantage of protectors are that they have marks on them to show where to put tape (ordinary black insulation tape is ideal) to provide the function of beam blockers, ideal for foreign trips, quick and hardly any cost. Easy to put on at the departure port and easy to remove at the port when home. Win - win.

I have had the unfortunate pleasure of functionally testing both Mirror Guards and Headlamp Protectors. :(:( So for me a small price to pay and certainly not a waste of money, as I have saved a lot of money on replacement parts.(y)(y););)

Agree about the handy markings for masking the headlights, for driving on the continent. And the latest X290 versions are very quick and easy to clip on and off.

But so far, we haven't bothered to take them off in the UK - we do little night time driving, and they might fulfill the main function of avoiding a stone through the headlight lens. :)

Aren't they polycarbonate anyway these days rather than glass?
