I know this not MoHo specific, but there is an increase in our area of this type of camping and rubbish left behind.

there are also ‘stealth vans’ wild camping and whilst I have no issue with anyone who wishes to wild camp or full time life style this rise in wild camping will impact everyone

It seems to be endemic in our society unfortunately. Look at the rubbish left behind on the beaches recently and other spots frequented during lockdown. The same happens on our village common every night and in various places around the local fields.

Local schoolkids had an "end of term" party on the common a few weeks ago, and left it looking like a tip, broken glass and everything else you could imagine all over the cricket pitch and elsewhere. It was raised on the local FB group, but the majority response was that they've all had a hard time being locked down and missing their schoolmates, so we should cut them some slack, and besides someone will clear it up anyway.

So it seems that most people think it's acceptable behaviour because someone will always clean up after them.

If I had done that as a youngster, my parents would have marched me back to the site the following morning and stood over me whilst i cleared it up, then I'd have been grounded for a month. But not today, it's always someone else's fault and no-one's problem

A short while ago I remember a certain young lady and those supporting her complaining that the older generation had ruined their heritage , it seems like the future doesn’t bode well with the present generation as keepers of our planet 😱😱

Maybe tjhis sort of behaviour by some tent campers may help locals in the area distinguish between wild camping in a self-contained MH with all facilities, and those who camp where there are no facilities, and do not even remove the litter from the items they brought there.

Geoff

Two things. One Identify the culprits, charge them with littering, and make part of the sentence obligatory litter gathering for at east a year. Two, we have Jails full of idle prisoners, Put them in leg irons and orange boiler suits, and get the chain gang to clean up, roadside verges and public places. Failure to comply adds another month at a time and NO remission.

They should leave the litter where it is. Eventually the campers will have to have a clear up before there's room to pitch their tent 😎👍

Discarded tents and huge amounts of waste and litter - that indicates a festival-goer mindset with these wild feral campers.

Worthy Farm's owner Michael Eavis may factor in the clean-up costs in the Glastonbury ticket price and allow a year in between festivals to let his land recover. Still, it shouldn't be like that even for his private land. Next, why should the rest of the countryside be disrespected and left looking like a festival site ... it is utterly irresponsible and unacceptable behaviour by a cohort of young people, who seem to feel entitled to preach at the rest of us about caring for the environment.

Any wild campers reading this thread will be traumatised and need therapy.

If they are clearing up their crap and taking it home with them then why will they be traumatised ? and if it is the ones leave their crap behind then they won't give a shit anyway.

This is the obscene reality of the festival goer mentality so typical of today's young. Not to mention playing bears and shitting in the woods

Unfortunately, we all get associated with the worse behaviour, and no-one remembers those of us who don't attract attention.

We spent a week at Savernake Forest C&CC site last summer. A 30-ish well spoken and well dressed couple with two well behaved young children were camping not far from us, in a large new looking tent, and a new Mercedes car. They were no problem to anyone during the time we were there - until the day they left. They took down the tent, rolled it up in the middle of the pitch, piled up their barbecue, empty bottles, cardboard boxes and bags of rubbish in a pile literally 8 feet high, got in their car and left. It took the warden the best part of an hour of his day to clear the pitch, and as he said, they did not have the rubbish facilities on the site to dispose of the tent, so it would have to be specially arranged.

I don't know if they were club members, but members or not, hopefully they would have been blacklisted and banned from making future bookings at any club site. I suspect the "club" would rather continue to take their money and let their own wardens deal with the problem as and when though.

Totally they all get it to easy

They all talk s..t
Two faced arseho...

What I think would be a good idea is to take kids out of school to clear up all this party shit that these cretins leave behind. The uproar would be massive, the kids would see the problem there peers have created and how much stress it causes and perhaps learn something from it. Just make it part of the curiculum, that shit left by (add your own description) has to be cleared up by someone. Perhaps they may learn/decide not to carry on the same way, for themselves and not have to be told. I wonder how that mum and dad who upped sticks and left the whole caboodle on the pitch would respond to their kids being taken out of school to clear up other peoples mess.

I’ve already got my littler picker for picking up other people’s crap for the camper I’m converting. Please don’t tar us all with the same brush.

What's new? it's been like that at the Lizard for quite a while now that I know of.

The Car park in the middle of the village, the NT parking area at Kynance Cove , the end of the track at Mullion.
Actually caught a dutchie emptying his cassette at Kynance behind the hedge, of course, unlike 99% of his countymen "no speakee da england!"

The public toilets at the Lizard used to swim in "BLUEO!"

It's no wonder the Cornwall Council are cracking down on FLTs, can you really blame them?

A few years ago we were 'wild camping' in Portugal with many other vans at a lovely spot near the sea, In the centre was a sign saying "No Camping". The whole large area where the vans were parked was clean, unlike a nearby roadside which had an unbelievable amount of litter along the side of the road. While we were there a couple of tourist buses turned up beside the trash and brought out tables and chairs for a picnic. The passengers ate, drank and danced for an hour or so then climbed back into the buses, leaving their mess to add to the existing rubbish.
I should add that we did not see the 'No Camping' sign until we gawped at the Portuguese day trippers antics.

Part of the problem is these stupidly cheap tents they can buy everywhere, they treat them as disposable they are that cheap, hike the prices up and hopefully they won't buy them lol.

As I post this subject is being discussed on BBC County File!!

As Scouts in the 1950`s, we where shown how and where to dig our latrine, where not to place them and made to backfill properly after camp. "elsans" where unknown. After a 2 week camp, the cleanup would leave the space virtually as we found it. Even the divots replaced over the Latrine and Firepit. The next troop who used the same place would never know we had been.

That's great Jack, not all festival goers are total slobs who care not a jot about the environment. However year after year after year, glastonbury and other festival sites end up looking like a wasteland of abandoned rubbish and camping gear. You and a few others may be an exception to the general rule of disgusting parasites who leave destruction in their wake as "somebody else's problem"

But this does not happen having reported wild camping by a river and private land the best you can hope for is the individual leave when requested.

Sorry . I'm sure the photo is staged , for media propaganda , no guy ropes on tents , & nobody leaves good tents & seats etc , other than at festivals , if they brought them with them in a car / van I'm sure they would have them back ,
The rubbish I could believe could have been left .

The Outdoor Education area is one that could really push to try and educate our youngsters in the future about this totally unacceptable behaviour. But this is one area that has been forgotten in this current Covid situation. They are closed down and have not been allowed to open. They have been told that it will be at least next January before they can open, however, most if not all will not survive until then and there will be no future residential outdoor education for our youngsters. Their staff are furloughed at the moment but as almost all are either charitable organisations or not for profit type, they do not have the resilience to survive and their often highly qualified staff will be forced to try and find other occupations.
Yes you may say that some of the current irresponsible people may have already had those experiences, and that is true but I would like to hope that there might be an opportunity to directly link by examples. Our current primary school children are unlikely to know what irresponsible behaviour goes on at festivals but may well have seen the rubbish left around at the moment. What better place to educate in the future than on an Outdoor Ed trip IF they survive.......Well OK one can hope.......

This type of thing has been happening for years.
OH used to do long distance walking events, many years ago when he was taking part in the Allandale challenge. We were in the camping field just outside of Allandale in our caravan along with quite a lot of people in tents.
The morning after the event, we were woken at 7am by people camped next to us wanting a jump start so the could ' go out for breakfast' they then disappeared leaving a tent and full set of gear sleeping bags, chairs etc. never to return. By the time we left there were 4 other tents abandoned. Campsite owner said it was same every year though usually only 1 or 2. I think he said he gave all of the tents and gear to the local scout group.
