hi Carolyn

I’ve been with LV 4 years and once onboard it’s very easy to just renew your policy each year online but the initial discussion was on the telephone where I highlighted all the extras onto the policy.

It’s listed now as a Fiat Rapido motorhome and having a value of £160k, this year when I changed from a 3 year old Autotrail to the brand new Rapido it’s actually gone down £19.

Al 👍
Thanks I might phone them. Do they do European breakdown?

I know they def do breakdown cover but not sure if it’s EU cover, you’ll have to ask, it’s with Brittania afaik but they only cover up to 8 mtrs I believe so not use to me.

FWIW I use Lifesure recommended by a friend who cover up to 12 mtrs with no weight limit UK&EU for £99, btw you have to select EU cover 😉

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
Mine [my premium] did the same [significant premium increase] when I changed to CAMC after 7 years with Comfort without having made any claim or changes to my circumstances.
Have just checked the exact figures re. my post above.

Comfort increased from £329 to £386 and I've only driven the m/h 500 miles in the past 2 years.

I renewed with CAMC (Devitts Insurance) for the same cover at £236.

It's worth knowing that CAMC guarantee to beat your renewal quote by £25. They also use Devitt. Very helpful folk on the phone. Subject to getting confirmation of their accepting my proof of renewal quote I will go with them. Otherwise probably Comfort who seem to have a good reputation.

With CaravanGuard but last 2 years premium's gone up 10% each year - so just rang LV who sound good from the above - BUT they won't insure Elddis! And not just mine, any Elddis - am I more likely to bang into something driving one? do they know something we don't? (sarcastic replies not needed...)
That's odd. My brother just got 2 quotes from Highway for his Elddis and Highway are owned by LV.

They have never, I repeat never, been able to get close to my LV quotes

We are the same I don’t know how folk are getting good quotes from CAMC we never have in ten years trying and in fact on speaking to them they actually told me they could not beat my LV= price🤔
We are hoping that LV= do the same with our MH insurance as they have with home insurance this year they reduced it by £75 to comply with the new legislation of giving as good if not better prices than new clients🤞🤞🤞😊

Just to reply to the replies to my post - yes I rang LV and it was the woman on the other end who said they won't insure Elddis - but she did sound quite stroppy and not worth arguing with! And if I remember right she went off and checked with someone. Maybe I got the wrong LV....

LV and mine has gone down this year by around £30

My LV house insurance has gone down this year, I’ll be trying them for our van insurance in September. AiB put ours up this year, £25, but that’s still in the wrong direction. (y)

I have a multi-vehicle policy with LV (two cars and Motorhome), renewal date soon so don’t know the renewal cost yet but last year saved me hundreds by using the multi-vehicle way forward. The only downside is they all have to be renewed at the same time so all together a big lump - but still MUCH cheaper.

I just received my renewal quote for Motorhome insurance. Premium increased by 20% despite extra no claims bonus and no incidents or convictions. Any recommendations for specialist insurers for ageing drivers with old Motorhome to insure.
My Motorhome premium with Comfort dropped by just under £100 just renewed last week. I use LV for my T6 Transporter as I get discount holding a pension with them.

Comfort are very, very good with claims in my experience; actual claim was handled directly by Aviva themselves and no quibbles - just told them over the phone what had happened and the claim value (destroyed awning) and that was it. Emailed the invoice to them and was paid within 3 days. Breakdown was good as well - handled by an agent and they did not argue when I said that the van was stuck in limp mode - just sent a Crouch recovery flatbed directly
Couple a years ago I tried Comfort for UK & EU cover, but due to my son also being on the Policy, and, if for some reason I was incapacitated say in Spain, Comfort said they would not provide a Driver to return my vehicle to the UK , and expected my son who is employed to go to Spain and drive vehicle back to UK consequently I went with Safegaurd, there are so many get out clauses with Insurance companies Comprehensive Insurance should be just that , with a few exceptions not reams of "What we will not cover "

I thought that nearly all insurance companies would have that type of clause in their terms and conditions.

Why? You are insuring a vehcle to be driven by nominated drivers. You don't expect them to all be available.
If you insure any driver do they expect you to find someone off the side of the road?
Insurance in the Uk has become a business where they want the insured person to do all the work, pay out for nothing & use any means to get out of there responsibility..

Exactly what I did last Oct after 9 claim free years with Comfort when the renewal premium increased hugely.
Changing to CAMC saved me around £120
That was your problem, they viewed you as an inert customer unlkely to change and took a flyer on you remaining inert. Fortunatelyl, you woke up!

Or does it just relate to the number of claims in that age group?. In a similar way is it descrimination that youngsters face really high premiums

We’ve been with Comfort for years but I’ve just had our quote this morning and it’s gone up from £301 to £380 , bit of a shock to say the least. We didn’t leave the country last year! I’ve just got a quote from C&Cc for £350 with Ageas, but I will certainly be trying LV but my first effort couldn’t find “base Vehicle” anywhere on their website so it just came up as a van.
I feel that Comfort have gone really expensive, no longer cover Morocco, been with them for a few years now, had 2 smallish claims and my premium went from £462 to a whopping £798, I think it's time to look elsewhere this year. Just sayin...

Comfort are the cheapest I've found so far. But everyone's situation is different.
