One of the government sage bods on BBC news says that people that have had both jabs meeting others that have had both jabs are at an infinitesimally small risk. So for me, why not? I’m sure there will be others on here that know more than the SAGE bod though.
At some point we do need to start living again, otherwise what’s the point?

I am one that prefers to abide by the rules and will do so and although Prof VanTam stated just how safe it is now I will wait.
It’s perfectly safe to drive at 35 mph on the road outside but it’s a 30 mph limit so that’s what I will stick to.

Not sure on the pill but with the 60million Pfizer jabs plus others on order for the autumn booster we should be ok.

Nasal spray vaccine isn't unbelievable as it can be offered as a flu vaccine shot.

Regardless of whether the scientists etc (including Prof JVT) say about the risks being very small for certain things, the govt has made it quite clear from the last release that it is going to be done to a specific timetable which they will not budge from by bringing things forward, the ONLY change will be to extend the periods which they do not want to do and I don't think anyone else does! Don't' break the rules and hopefully we'll be given more freedom as time goes on, but if some people start breaking the rules there is a real likelihood that their actions could cause all of us issues.

I don’t suppose anyone could hand on heart say they had never broken a speed limit but it’s something I will not intentionally do and I’m reminded by a beep if I exceed by 1mph. I have never had a speeding ticket and don’t intend to start now.

Me too, for doing 36mph in a 30 but only ever one and that was 6 days after passing my test.

Yes if people use them properly, but far too many don't.
How long do people use them for before they either change or properly clean them.
In a medical situation they are changed on a regular basis.

I am trying to be careful here to not appear to be trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs because without doubt you know far more about this subject than I do.

I think they probably aren't as effective as they could be if the entire population had an average or higher IQ and had been fully trained. But you have to remember half the population has below average IQ and pretty much next to none of the overall population has had training.

That said, is it a waste of time and are they totally ineffective if used poorly? I don't believe so.
Providing they cover the nose and mouth they do reduce the quantity of aerosols released into the air in the supermarket which is from my understanding the most likely transmission vector in that environment with surface contact being the lesser route.

There are two reasons to wear a mask. The first is to protect the wearer and the second is to protect others.
I think without training the former is very limited. The wearer it likely to make stupid mistakes that reduce the effectiveness. They are also unlikely to take other precautions.

I however do believe that even without training providing the mouth and nose are covered the masks provide a useful if not 100% reduction in the aerosols in the air.

I did read of an experiment done but I can't find it off the top of my head. But they tested what percentage of reduction in aerosolised particles were prevented by a single layer mask and a double layer mask. They even tested some home made options.
The reductions were pretty high, from memory even the worst one stopped 80%+ of particles. In an operating theatre or other medical environment this would be of course unacceptable. But for the general population I think it is a worthwhile precaution.
Will it prevent the spread in supermarkets? Probably not completely, but does it reduce them? I think it must have a pretty big effect in context?

As with anything in life there will be some who make a better job of it than others, it's just the way things are.
The best we can do is do the best for ourselves in the hope that it also protects others.
