My application is with the DVLA now. Could have been sooner but the surgery cocked up the form filling. My birthday is Feb 23. Just waiting and will update when it arrives. No medical issues. Mike
Hi. Back from DVLA this morning, 9 day turnaround and all classes correctly listed. Mike

@Stewart J So you sent it off on the 17th ..... should we run a book as to when you get it back all correct? No prizes except for a smug feeling :)

I will start it by saying 3rd January.

Mind I am hoping someone wants to clear his desk and is pushing things through asap and it is quicker than that :)

About to apply for my third renewal and ever wary of what could happen to me before I get it. However even when I was banned from driving after an accident (not the road type) their response and support I could not fault, even though they mistakenly sent me the full licence even before my medical while I was still banned. They thanked me for my honesty when I queried the licence and asked for it back 'please'. Although it got stuck in my wallet, I did not cheat and use it. On the day my ban ended I got a nice letter saying that I could use my licence now. I kind of liked it that they did not just forget me.

Panick not i was diagnosed with glaucoma just before applying. Form signed by specialist and licence was back in just over 2 weeks. Go to a specialist doctor for licence renewal and half the cost of your own doctor plus they fill the forms in regularly so know what they are doing.

Think that filling the forms in correctly is the no 1 criteria for speedy processing of your application.Once they find a mistake it goes to someone else in tray..BUSBY..

An update, letter from DVLA at the weekend, apparently due to the prescription of my spectacles being in excess of 8 Dioptres my eyesight does not meet the standard for Group 2 driving.
I was born with extreme long sight in both eyes, my spectacles correct this and I more than meet the Skellen requirement for safe driving.
Phoned the DVLA medical team this morning spoke at length to a very helpful chap, if I wore contacts it would not be a problem (contacts not an option I was a guinea pig for the eye hospital 10 years ago when they asked me to assist to see if it were possible to create contacts for my prescription, not possible to much distortion despite repeated attempts)
There is no scope for appeal and my C! entitlement will not be issued.
Last paragraph of the DVLA letter reads "The Law does not allow you to drive group 2 vehicles until confirmation is received stating that you meet the standard".
Bit of a blow, now have to get the Hymer replated to 3500kg we had it uprated to 3850kg on purchase 2 years ago.

Have posted this as a warning to any other owners with spectacle lens strength in excess of 8 dioptres and have not gone into the full DVLA requirements, if you are driving a moho in excess of 3500kg you are probably driving illegally and god forbid if you are involved in an accident it could have insurance implications.

That's a bit of a blow, this was my first application as I'm 70 in February, I posted the forms new year's eve and got the licence back 8th January with C1 so was impressed with DVLA. One thing for anyone applying, my new licence runs from when they issued it, not from when my old one expires, so I have in effect lost 6 wks entitlement

Thanks for the warning, I had no idea that the eyesight requirement for bus and lorry was different. Sorry to hear of the problem this causes you.

I went to Prague and had trifocal lenses fitted. If you have an unusual prescription they can have the lenses made specially. Would something like that be an option for you? I don't need glasses now.

There are so many notifiable things on the dvla's list that I think half the country would have them revoked.:(

I have had a full license almost 50 years so my C1 was automatic, who would think of reading the DVLA small print regarding spectacle lens requirements. My opticians over the years provided me with corrective specs that more than met the driving requirements. It’s so annoying to know I am going to be driving the same vehicle albeit with a restriction on the weight and so restricting the payload.
My current specs thanks to the efforts of my optician and the lens supplying laboratory are the thinnest I have ever had in my entire life mind they had to be sourced from the USA. Suppliers of lens blanks in the UK are becoming scarcer so are very thick and heavy on the nose,

If only Hils and Glenn’s, my only way of correction would be laser surgery with all its risks. The DVLA decision has been hard to swallow but at least I won’t have the worry of reapplying for my C1 every three years. We are now weighing the options and the fitting of a tow bar and small trailer to carry our scooter whilst abroad. We just need a good rethink.

I fail to understand that if you are allowed to drive the Hymer downplated to 3500 kg with your current prescription spectacles, why you cant drive it at 3850 kg? Re contact lenses, have you enquired since your hospital trial as Im certain there have been immprovements in contact lens technology?

That's a bit of a blow Stewart, until I saw your last post I was thinking not really possible to run a BDL @3500 even a smaller one like yours.

At the moment struggling with my blood pressure juggling pills, at least I've got 18 months to get it under control, no way we could run our van at 3500.

Weighbridge tomorrow Lenny, DVLA require it along with covering letter etc etc before they will down plate. A lot of work and yes I am worried about the payload Hymers claim for my model of 500kg is total bo***x.

Normally Hymer payloads are spot on, our first two were 30kg under current one 16kg over.
On the C of C the Technical MIRO will be the weight it left the factory with factory fitted options.

I reckon minimum payload over MIRO for two is 700 kg, that allows for 200kg of factory/dealer/self fitted options.
