After having a few alterations, namely replacing a heavy steel bed frames out of the van with an Aluminium one made by Wissel and swapping a double bench seat for a single swivel I took the van to a weighbridge near me and with me sat in and 3/4s tank of fuel and 40 litres of water it topped out at 2880kgs, that means a whopping 620kgs of additional payload not bad for a 3500kg max weight van Result πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

it’s going into Quantum on Monday to get remapped taking it up to 180BHP so it will be like a space shuttle, load and speed😁😁😁😁😁😁.

My first job will be to see if I can better the 45MPG I got loaded up going up to Shetland last year, it’s been serviced for the trip and with the remapping I am looking to start recouping the remapping cost.πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

There is something to be said for specifying the interior of your own van.

45 mpg.. were you pushing it πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€

I know removing the ridiculously heavy steel table base and replacing with an aluminum tube made a huge weight saving in our last motorhome. Why do the manufacturers not consider the weight of some of their fittings.

What sort of re-map are you going for ? Like 10%, 20% ??

And how long do you expect the payback to be ?

So, after a remap and maybe a few more BHP, where are you in a rush to get to?

Half the fun is in trundling along enjoying the view and the company of your travelling companions.

For me it was not about any rush but additional torque makes driving more relaxing IMHO.

What is the downside of remapping? (apart from insurance possibly)

If there is no downside, why don't manufacturers (re)map them when they manufacture them?

ok, have a7.5m Rapido 160 fiat engine with the newer 9 speed true auto box. It's not a racing snake, never wanted it to be.
Goes up and down dale with no intervention from me per say.
Find driving it more relaxing than the car as it's not built for speed/racing unlike the 240BHP 0-62 in 7.1s jeep. which lulls you in to giving it a boot.

That’s interesting what sort of cost and is it carried out by specialist garages.

There are no β€˜downsidesβ€˜ as long as the techies don’t take it too far that the engine breaks, take a look at www.quantumunsung.co.uk n in your registration number an they tell you what you can expect.
I am having the Blue remap for Β£250.
Previously I had a Nissan Pathfinder and I fitted a RaceChip which did the same thing as a full remap and fuel economy increased and torque was massive.
Dont be shy of doing it.

Should have said www.quantumtuning.co.uk

Anyone near Carlisle, I can recommend Mr G's.
Same software as everyone else but prices from Β£120. Had our van mapped 2 years ago and a much nicer drive. No change in mpg though.

What are the insurance implications? Should you tell your insurer?
According to that link _ I'd get +40% BHP and +18% torque for special offer price of Β£349
No mention of colour or options
Is that good, would I notice... I trundle along at about 58/60mph

Answers in previous post no 7 and the extra torque and BHP means that you should be able to drive β€˜lighter footed’ thus saving fuel.
Quantum advertise on their website a few prices, but when I spoke to the technician directly to book him, I queried the price we agreed Β£250 if I came to him at his unit which has a rolling road etc. So I agreed as it means we can check the actual results/figures after remapping !

Not sure you have to have a turbo, remapping changes the software parameters, but I will ask him on Monday.

If anyone has any questions they want me to ask Quantum when I on site with him list them in this thread and I will see if we can get them all answered. 😊😊

Do they rev the guts out of the engine for the before and after tests? I'd be very nervous about that happening to my MH.
