Hello motorhome owners! Myself and my partner and our 2 year old are looking to travel the UK during the colder seasons in a motor home, we work remotely so will be traveling and working as we go. We thought it would be a good idea to ask people who already have a motorhome and that may be sat around being stored. We would fully insure the vehicle, pay for any up-keep and garage check ups and pay a monthly rent to the owner. We are looking for a medium-large motorhome, with a double bed with mattress (preferred).

We are a very clean, considerate and respectful couple and have a gorgeous little 2 year old son who will be travelling with us.

We can provide positive references.

Does anyone know a site or the best place to reach people that would be interested in this, if it's not here?

Thank you so much.

Hi, I think you will be very very lucky to find anyone. Most of us won’t even lend to family.
Your best bet but probably expensive is a genuine motor home hire company.
The insurance and liabilities for a private hire / loan are excessive.

Good luck

I'm with everyone else buy and sell on the Aussies di this when they travel in Europe selling at the end of your trip as adorable as your 2 year old maybe kids and dogs make renting interesting they are both high risk.

mbeckingham. I really do admire your style, ie, if you don't ask, you won't get. ;)

For most of us, our MHs are our pride and joy, and the second most expensive lifetime purchase after our home. As mentioned above, nearly all of us wouldn't even consider loaning to family or friends, never mind renting out to strangers............no matter how lucrative that might be for some.

Unfortunately, I think you are flogging a dead horse, no matter how sincere and genuine your request comes across.
As advised, buy, use, and sell when ready to.

Good luck. (y)

Jock. :)

As said no chance I would think I wouldn't even lend mine to my daughters let alone let a stranger near it.

It's no help sorry, however just to give a view I'd not lend/hire our van to family or our children, which to some extent fortunately they aren't licensed to drive.

I was nosy and just looked at a motor hire site. For the 6 months sept to march for a motorhome 3 beds the hire started at £17k!
That justifies the buy and sell option 👌

Got to be worth asking, you never know. Actually, I could do with one too, for just that period of time. Unless they find my stolen van.
Yep worth asking. Don't ask and you don't get.
On the upside to yourself if I was ever going to do it and am not. I would consider some who has/or had a motor home. My thinking is at least they would know it true worth and I don't mean in ££££

Alright then, I'll ask. Can someone loan me an mh, free of charge, for 6 to 12 months, until my new van arrives?

I have to agree, I wouldn't loan out or hire out mine. Just the idea that the scroats who stole mine are creeping all over it makes me feel sick.

Welcome from Warwick! (y)
VERY unlikely to find a Funster willing to rent their ‘van out……
I’d certainly look at buying one for the duration of your travels, and then selling it (if you want to!) when you’ve finished. Hiring would be expensive, as Rosemary1 discovered……o_Oo_O

When my son and DIL went on a 3 month European tour just before Covid I bought them a m/h (for £18 grand). When they returned 4,200 miles later we sold it within 3 weeks, making a £3,500 profit.

Why don’t you buy one and use it for 6 months then sell it on .
If you buy a good older type it will hold its price and save you a fortune.
Plenty on MHF classified section.
I personally wouldn’t lend ours to anyone friend or family.

That's good to hear that you are planning to replace your stolen van 😉

to OP: I wonder how long it will be before someone asks what you need and your budget is, and "sources" one to suit. .. :mask::mask: With a healthy cash deposit from you.
Perhaps more on other websites than MHF. :pray2:

Buy another one and lend it out.
Everyone's a winner
