Hows this for a wine box, 22,000 litres of Chilean wine in a 20ft container, would need a decent sized glass I think.
Delivered 3 of these now, they come into Port of Tyne on a container ship then it gets pumped out and bottled just outside Newcastle in a bonded warehouse. I offered to help the process with my 2 litre flask but my kind and generous offer was declined sadly.

The figures of the wine bottling plant here at Avonmouth are staggering, the wine comes into the docks in huge bulk containers.
Extract from article
It had also broken a record in terms of production at the plant by transferring as much as 20.7m litres of wine into bottles and bag-in-box in one month, during October.

Do people think that non 'local' wine gets shipped across the world in bottles?

A container shaped plastic bag, used to line a container, filled with wine has been in use for years

Just look at the label to see it's bottled in the UK.......

It's called a flexitank. They've been on the go for a number of years. Designed to replace \ supplement standard ISO shipping tanks for non-hazardous liquids.

I'm so glad they designated wine a non-hazardous liquid. I find that when I try to carry it in quantity I tend to fall over and act all silly, and when I finally wake up have something called "a hangover". Perhaps I've been drinking the wrong wine??

The predecessor to those, was the (now) ISO Tank container. We used to bring them from Denmark, in the late 60`s, Full of Carlsberg Lager, Before they started brewing it in the UK.

When I sailed out of Liverpool to the Caribbean in the 70`s. We had barrels of RAW white rum aboard on the return run, that stuff would send you blind (neat), We caught "chippy" tapping a barrel, he was flogging it to the crewmembers to make "grog"!.

Nope. Nothing to do with the wrong wine!
Your issue would appear to be, if I'm reading your response correctly, is you're stopping drinking wine to have a kip!
Bad move.

A heads up to those who like sloe gin. When shipping the concentrated sloe berry extract in bulk it needs to be in glass lined ISO tanks as it's corrosive to the stainless steel!:Eeek:
Bacardi run a regular tanker (as in like a small oil tanker) service from The Caribbean to Southampton.
