I'm thinking of getting a reversing camera and don't really want the hassle of running cables through the van does anyone have any views on the wireless type, thanks for any info on these.

All the ones I've tried have been useless, including a WiFi one that had a handy 5 second delay ?.
You've got to run a power cable up anyway so you might as well run a cable under the van to go with it for the video ?

Did have a wireless one on a previous van but never worked properly, a wired one is far better, bought my twin one from DRW electronics.

Dont even think about running wires through the van! (If you meant inside it?) When I wired mine I used the main wiring loom that goes from back to front (FIAT) and just cable tied the power & video wires to that. Then I found a convenient grommet to get the wires through in the passenger foot well (right side) straight into the main console.
I put my cameras on the rear bumper though, so if you want a high rear mounting that will need an outlet at the rear.
As my van is the steel chassis I didnt need to use Ramps to get underneath it either!

Ran mine through the, in the cab area to get them to the dash had to cut the ends off and solder them back on. Then I found the cables Hymer had already installed.

I was supposed to have rear camera wiring already installed but it's not there, so that was the clincher for going underneath.

You didn't miss much as the adaptors would have cost £80 compared to £25 for new cables or I could have spent 500 quid more on a Waco camera.

I fit AutoVox M1W wireless systems as a mobile self employed Flintshire Caravan and Motorhome Technician.
4.3" colour display, take a 12V camera feed off rear side lights or just reverse for reverse use only.
The monitor just uses a 12V cab cigar plug and has a USB out so you can still use the 12V outlet for other things.
Camera sits nicely on top of the rear number plate.

Tried wireless but useless. Just run the cables rear to front along the chassis etc. Used 30 foot of cable but tidy and hidden. Mine's an AClass so interesting finding a route from the camera at the top to the bottom. Much better than through the van and easier to remove when you sell it.

Surely that means having sidelights on all the time to have the camera operative!
modern vans have daytime running lights always on, like volvos always did

A wire can be run from the back of the camper to the front for camera power to an ignition live or rocker switch.
All wiring options are given to anyone that I fit a wireless camera systems.
I had a Burstner and someone fitted a micro-switch in the back to turn the camera on or off.
It was a pain to go to the back of a 25FT long vehicle to do that.
Wired camera systems are far better than wireless in my opinion.
Wireless do the job and are easier to fit.

I thought that too! I had to use 2 wires, one 12v to the cab for an ignition related take off, the other is for the camera output. My camera is on all the time as a rear view mirror.

I had a wireless one on my first van. It was ok, but occasionally it picked up the inside of banks or hotels whilst I drove passed them.

I went for a wired system. Just ran the cables underneath. I did look at a wireless system but you still have to connect the camera at the back to a power supply. It was just as easy to have a wired system. It's been trouble free for the last twelve months and gives a very good clear picture.
