As we are now settled into this very strange world are any funsters planning winter in the sun?
We normally do Spain but now seriously rethinking this winter due to Covid.
Where are the snowbirds heading, if anywhere.

Not going at the moment and have just cancelled a pitch we had booked at Imperium in Villajoyosa, it will be the first Winter at home for around 15 years so will be strange and probably cold.
May go around March April time if things improve.

We haven't yet made our minds up. We wanted to return to Morocco but that is now looking very unlikely and bearing in mind we only just made it out before lockdown are reluctant to get into that situation again.

So Spain/Portugal is on the cards although judging from some posts the latter is being somewhat unfriendly to m/hs. However we don't want to take any more chances so the situation will be kept on review until early December when we shall make our decision.

Otherwise it will be stay in the UK although I'd hope we could manage a few short breaks.

My experience with both Portugal and Spain has been fantastic. Portugal have closed many of the unofficial parking spots for wild camping, sensibly since they can't control the sanitation of the areas, but the official parkings, the camp sites and the people themselves are exceptionally happy to see Brit visitors.

Of course if you are only prepared to stay on places for free, then yes Portugal is now less well served and the police are actively moving vans on.

Not this year. If Nick or I fall ill with Covid 19 I want to be in the UK where I understand the system. I am risk averse where health is concerned. If we’re suddenly locked down again we have a nice big house in a big garden in the safest part of the country. We only have a PVC so lockdown on a campsite in Spain only allowed out to a single supermarket would be grim.

Don't understand why you'd go for winter, the pools are freezing, the weather can be just as cold, Benidorm even had some snow the other year. Don't you have central heating at home? 🤣 We're always home by early November.

Sun and warmth ... that's why we go, having done 2 part-winters there being in the UK fills me with dread as I don't "do cold" well at all.

Sitting out on the beach in lovely warm sunshine with the dogs lolling around is bliss, can't do that in the UK unless you want to freeze!

Tunnel booked for the 10th of October if we catch the virus I would rather be in a hot country lol .

Not sure if we will stay in Spain or go to Portugal it depends on the situation when we get there.

The coldest winter in Spain is far easier to tolerate than the mildest winter here and we were there this year for storm Gloria - anyone remember that?

I don't know how you would get on if you caught something Covid related as all insurers that I have seen have excluded cover for covid. If you ended up in an EU hospital, because you couldn't get back to the UK, after the 1st Jan, the costs could be horrendous.

Not all insurance excludes Virus. Mine for example covers all medical and repatriation including virus but not travel or other booking cancellation due to virus. It's an annual policy we have had for many years and they confirmed those facts by email before we left UK (mentioned that as there will likely be someone who knows better than me, disbelieves and is a travel/ covid expert along shortly). 😀

I don't mind a cold frosty sunny morning in the UK, it's the rain that gets me down and that's all year round anyway🙄. Each to their own, enjoy😎

You do exaggerate don't you! :giggle:

We've had some gorgeous weather this year in the UK and even today it's warm and sunny here in East Yorkshire, but over winter although we may get the odd nice warmish day the vast majority are cold.

Having travelled through France Germany Luxembourg UK and back into Spain so far this summer, the Spanish covid cases are mainly in the cities and they are very strict, masks are compulsory outside, most people have excepted that, some have chosen the €100 fines, the play area near us was fenced a couple of years ago, prior to that when the police came to sort the teenager's out, it took loads of them because they could run away, they came the other day about twenty of them socialising no masks, 😲 police pulled up went in shutting the gate behind them and wrote everyone a ticket. 😁

The next night Janie was walking the dog, four teenage girls in front of her, Janie said you do know you should have your mask on girls, one turned around and said yes bye bye, within 30m two had put theirs on, and within another 20m they all had them on, realised everyone was wearing them and would be an expensive night out. 😁

The Spanish have always been good at fining people, it's nothing new and it works, we were horrified when we started our travels, and felt so much safer being in Spain, everywhere they provide hand sanitiser and make sure you use it, we went to the Indian restaurant Sunday hand sanitiser outside inside the door on tables and outside the toilets, when we was in a big Asda in the UK we had to ask where it was, when it was pointed out hidden the chap said they had used 15lts that week people must be taking it home, its everywhere here in Spain outside every shop bar and restaurant. 🙂

So we have guests still coming so Monday then we head for Portugal, and hopefully we have the same experience there. 😁

As you can see, the very strict 12 week lockdown, has made us very cautious, but life goes on, we still eat in certain restaurants, we still socialising with certain people, but I will add we decided not to visit my brother and his family on our UK visit even though we stayed on a campsite about 3 miles from his house, because they had just come back from Greece his wife works in Morrison's and his children were going back to Greece on the Tuesday with their mates, none of them really care, my brother said don't worry about it he had probably already had it, so we kept clear. 🤔
We go out tomorrow with friends a restaurant we use regularly loads of space and very high in the safe places on our list, you can only be as careful as you can and life goes on. 👍Bob.

You would be treated even without any type of health cover, ehic, insurance as A ) it is an emergency & B) it is a notifiable disease that cannot be left untreated. It would be the same for a foreigner in the UK & no bill.
** & that is the main reason they do not want hordes of extra people if it hit the fan.

Having been in Spain at the beginning of lockdown this year, and having seen how strict it was (rightly so), my main fear would be getting locked down in the heat in the van. :(

That was the plan, tunnel was booked for 29 Sept, but we changed it yesterday to 09 Jan 2021.

Going to do NC500 for a month instead, and hoping we are welcome.

Having done a bit of research now, we are very excited as it looks stunning!!
