....... and it looks like rain all the way as we head to the tunnel over the next few days. :oops2:

It appears that the wiper motor has gone West as the fuse is okay and the relay clicks when the stalk is moved onto wipe. Given the wiper motor thump, but no joy.
Think that I have a spare relay to try swapping in the spares box and will try a BSI (body control unit) reset in the morning just in case that has thrown a wobbly.

Note to self - add a bottle of RainX to the box of gubbins on the van.

I hope the relay is not one in the box under the bonnet as those are soldered in.

Hope its an easy fix, similar thing happened to me on the M6 in torrential rain, motor burned out. Not a pleasant experience driving with no wipers.

Ordered a new wiper motor which should be there when we get home.
Does not look to be too much of a job, but just hoping it is motor as the van is booked in for an MOT on the 6th of next month.

Yes, it does rather concentrate the mind as I found earlier today when it decided to rain. :Eeek:

Disconnect motor linkage & connect each wiper through the windows with string & get the wife to operate them.

You are a mind reader ................ the very thought had crossed my mind. :ROFLMAO:

Years ago, I borrowed a mate's Ford Transit pickup, and the bloody thing caught fire under the bonnet in the middle of Luton.
Luckily a bus driver coming the other way jumped out with a fire extinguisher and put it out, but the throttle cable had melted jamming it up.
A length of string through a grommet hole in the firewall onto the carb and I had a hand throttle. An interesting journey the 30 miles back coordinating the gear changes with the throttle.

Accelerator cable snapped on one my Minis years back, drove it until the weekend until I could get to the scrappie, using the Choke control, pull out to accelerate, twist to lock it on at desired speed.:giggle:
Well gone are the scrap yard days eh?, climb up 3/4 cars to get the bit you wanted, amazing it was ever allowed when you think about it now.
Good luck Paul, hope you get some dry weather.

Could be the linkage. Because of the scuttle issues water can get down the side of the spindles and seize everything. When mine seized the motor bent the linkage. It’s possible to replace the linkage by removing only the left hand side of the scuttle. Easiest to remove the bonnet as well and remember to seal the scuttle to the windscreen afterwards. A length of P profile rubber does the job well.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I had check out the linkages and they are nice and free, plus I have fitted the scuttle drain kit that Funster PaulandChrissy, so no water buildup there.

The motor has power to it but no sign of life.

I was about to say you need Rain X.

Hope you sort it out… ☹️

I hope you have a rain free return trip and don’t hit rain like we did coming to Grand fort Phillip , got off train a 6pm and turned off A16 and after a few I’m the heavens opened, stop raining now but very windy.

Safe travels you two, have a great trip.

It's been torrential rain at Montreuil sur Mer today, which is why we wanted to get here yesterday, we couldn't have driven in the rain today. Fingers crossed for dry weather tomorrow to get home 🤞

We saw the forecast for today so made a bolt for Montreuil-sur-Mer yesterday morning and hunkered down.
The forecast for tomorrow looks like it might be kind to us for the last leg to the tunnel and home.

Manic, we are just across the other side of the Marina from you, at Gravelines. :)
You are right, the rains were horrendous, and the winds are forecast to gust all night. I had to bring the satellite dish down before it got damaged.

Two on Tour. Paul, are you any further forward with either a bodge or a repair?

We are on the 09.20hrs train on Wednesday morning.

Safe travels all,

Jock. :)

No, no joy, new wiper motor was delivered at home this morning, so will get on it when we get home.

The turbo over boost problem we had had not re-occurred, so fingers crossed.

Safe travels to you too guys and look forward to meeting up next meet. (y)

I had to drive 2 weeks round Europe in 1993 with no wipers on an old vw . Its OK as long as its heavy rain just a bit blurred .. its the light drizzle that's a pain

Two on Tour hope you get home okay and the new motor solves the problem for you, the rain has been bad along your route home.
We got to Dinan on Friday as you left, where did you stop?

The rain proved interesting a few times, but we are at the tunnel now waiting for our train.

We were on the bottom field next to the viaduct at Dinan.

Hope you got back OK, we missed you at Montreuil by 24 hours.
I hope the new wiper motor fixes the problem.

Morning Nick, we got home early yesterday afternoon, although the half-hour downpour on the M11 had my eyes out on stalks.

Checked that the wiper motor was the problem before stripping it out by removing the wiring connector from the old motor and plugging it into the new motor and bingo we had life.
Started the job, but the wiper arms would not budge off of the spindle splines, so now waiting for a puller to arrive this morning.

Too late now but rubbing a cut potato over the screen makes it easier to see through when it rains and the wipers don't. I think it is something to do with starch - used the idea back in the 60's when I ran several 'bangers' that were always going wrong.

Bit hard having your other half clinging onto the windscreen with a potato while going along at 60mph though😳😳
😂😂

Yes, remember that one from my early days of driving around in 50 quid old bangers. :giggle:
A bottle of Rain X is now in the spares box ...... just in case.
