laptop did an update yesterday and now windows icon in bottom left corner does nothing and battery icon on taskbar has disappeared, have managed to get a shortcut up to "this pc" and can turn off by going into task manager how can i restore to before the update

settings button in this pc not responding either and if I minimise anything it disappears and nothing showing on taskbar

Is Cortana working? If so type in WINDOWS UPDATE and you should get the option to go to the settings where you can uninstall the latest updates.

Mine has also just played up ... new updates downloaded last night and installed this morning when I turned the machine on, everything worked fine but once I'd shut the laptop down and restarted it I could get on the internet despite being connected! I uninstalled 2 of the last updates and its working now so there's something 'nasty' in whatever it is they're sending out!

If you've got a disc, shut the laptop down, put that in then it should give you the option to install or repair windows, click on repair and follow what it says, it won't cause any more issues but might solve the problem you have.

Have managed to do a system restore to before the last update and although i had a message saying it had failed it seems to be working ok now.

never had any problem with windows 95 98 or xp why cant they test updates properly now

For reasons unknown to me this Windows update is known to reduce the height of the taskbar so some of the larger icons that once displayed are unable to load. This could be the reason why your battery icon went missing as I would imagine it’s a large icon. I lost my clock and date icon that once sat above each other recently following that update and following adjusting the taskbar height they reappeared like magic. Good to read you got out of trouble with a system restore.

System restore is the most important features of Windows. I wish my body had a similar utility because several functions are no longer working like they used to.

That red wine app I found in utility yesterday seemed to run so smoothly last night but now the cpu seems to be running slow. I think I will do a restore to yesterday lunchtime.
