Why does this come as such a surprise while most "off-piste" campers routinely use this method to enable them to continue using their on-board wc while camping. Have you never been under pressure from other family members to let them use the full toilet. A cassette toilet soon fills with family usage.
Not nice to admit but off-piste campers do empty their toilets in non official disposal places and will continue to do so.

If MHers are disgusted by that video, as I am, imagine how many Mail readers who have already had the drip drip drip effect of anti-MH stories must be feeling.

I very much hope that the irresponsible cretins who made the "ooh, look at me I am literally taking the p*ss, isn't that a larf" video are prosecuted successfully and fined heavily by a Scottish court. Over to you, Scottish officialdom, get off your backsides and do your jobs.

Most sensible people know idiots like this are in the minority and on this occasion doing it for laughs from their equally stupid fanbase.

No point getting worked up about it

Not all car drivers are hated because a few speed and if they were it wouldn't stop them doing it.

All the tsk tsk tsking in the world wont make a blind bit of difference

Bit on Sky news about New Zealand, seems they are having trouble with campers crapping beside the roadside.
They are looking at making only self sufficient motorhomes able to camp.
Won't make any difference as a van with a cassette toilet IS classed as self sufficient

Anyone with sense who cant empty one in a toilet burrys it discretely with no issues

Only in the UK most other countries provide proper facilities, the UK needs to get its arse into gear.
Well most of them anyway ....theres a severe shortage in greece ive noticed

Lots of free water but very few toilet disposal places

Ive opted not to use mine for now.

I was thinking the colour of the liquid looked like supermarket own brand lager

Before or after use?
so many chemical preservatives in it that it makes no difference going in or out, it's still piss water

People have been disposing of their bodily waste in the wild for thousands of years, but that does not excuse this particular filthy and criminally irresponsible act. Responsible wild campers who have no other options dig a deep hole, well away from water courses, and bury their formaldehyde-free waste so it can break down naturally without presenting a health risk to others.

I do hope these lads are traced and prosecuted.

The problem will only get worse as more rental companies offer up cheap weekend hire for motorhomes. There will be a culture with inexperienced motorhomers who are just doing a one off rent to get a break somewhere local.
There will be a "Its not ours and we only have it for a few days so we'll do as we like" mentality.

Well MTV I have been motorhoming throughout Europe for some 40 years using every kind of stop-over possible. I've wild camped on Med beaches for months at a time etc etc. To date I have never seen or heard of a single camper digging a hole to bury the contents of their motorhome cassette. I've seen them disposed of many different ways but never into a pre-dug hole.

Sadly the fact is that if the so called "staycation" is here to stay, we are all about to discover that the country - including the wild bits - is smaller than we thought. Couple that to a massive increase in the numbers of people who don't have a clue how to behave in the great outdoors taking to the wilderness, maybe some form of regulation and/or management of visitor numbers is going to be needed to protect vulnerable habitats.

2 Cassette’s help.
Plus we pee in a large 5 ltr container and empty it in the scenery. Night pees in the loo are the exception.
We can last 8 to 10 days that way.
Mitch.

Trust me Buttons, it was once the only way that you could organise a rally, and whilst some places now have tank facilities, digging an "elsan pit" for all the campers to empty toilets in is still common practice. It usually falls upon the stewards to organise back filling the hole in the ground, although it is usually the farmer uses his tractor to dig the hole and backfill when the liquid level has dropped after a day or two after the rally has finished. More than a few times, I have used the shovel and shown potential new stewards how to backfill safely without risk of splashing
