Just out of interest, could a few of you out there please post your interpretation of "wild camping"
Once there are about a dozen answers / replies i will divulge why i am asking
Thanks
Joe

In the forest, by a lake, canal, river, in a mates farm yard or industrial unit with no services.

Out of a city-in a rural location - self sufficient and probably to be exact camping ie in a tent not a Moho or van
But also some of us wildcamp in towns/ in side streets / at festivals - love the farm leave no trace xxx❤️

For us it’s somewhere preferably scenic, with no services. Next to a river, canal, lake etc, in a pine forest or at the top of a hill with fabulous views.
The fact that it’s free is incidental, it’s the place which is important.
Wild camping in the U.K. is difficult (in our view) and widely disapproved of or banned which is why we always head across the channel.

Technically wild camping is camping outside of paid or serviced sites and not in a vehicle. However it's often used to describe campervans / Motorhomes that do the same. When I used to use a tent I wild camped, now when I've done it in my old camper and will in the new motorhome I simply call it "wilding".

After all, one wouldn't want to give the wrong impression now one owns a new MH.

Not trying to make an impression one way or another to be honest

I’ve never really wild camped.

To wild camp you’re walking or cycling with a tent and find a wild spot (do not just walking 100m from your car). You cook your own food on a stove and need a shovel ...

We’ve cycle-camped but always on campsites and we’ve spent some nights not on sites in the van.

I don't "camp".

How can you call spending time in a cosy environment with central heating, hot and cold running water, cooker, fridge, freezer, electric lights, stereo sound system and internet "camping"?

I refer to what I do as "off-site" motorhoming living.

JJ

Probably off grid somewhere with no intermaweb real wildcamping.

Thanks all,
It appears that most people agree with my thoughts plus one of mine is that after a day of travelling and exploring, that you find somewhere around where you have ended up at, not a planned spot at a pre-determined destination.
the reason for my asking was because i have recently had a long discussion with people who live near us and have brought a mid range MH, without much research it seems,
I was approached by the young man one evening and asked a few questions about using the MH, and then he asked what we do about waste, especially the cassette, power, electricity for their "Tech" etc as they were "planning a wild camping holiday because as they have a MH they do not see any point in paying for campsites ever, they then told me that their preferred places to stop are sea-fronts in fairly large towns so that the children can find something to do, or adjacent to the large theme parks etc, as they don't like being too far away from , as he put it "civilisation"
I went on to explain to him that it is exactly that sort of behaviour is why we are being banned from seafronts and town carparks etc, and that wild camping is just that, being discreet, responsible, and thoughtful.
Not sure how that went down, but they have now gone away somewhere,
Thanks, All
Joe
