Wild camping South Africa

Well, that’s a bit different from the usual posts! Not a good place to nip outside for a pee then.
I did have to chase the neighbours tom-cat away the other night as I didn’t want him peeing up my van,but that’s not really in the same league,is it.:)

My wife and I done a couple of game drives in S.A. and the memory will stay with us for the rest of our lives. We also visited quite a few wildlife places where we could get up real close to some wonderful animals. One of our greatest surprises we had was when we turned up to Addo Elephant Park and it was full and so directed to a place not too far away where the owner was breeding Lions. That night as we lay in our bed we could here them less than 100 Mts away. A sound you never forget. The following morning we were allowed to go up to a link fence where they came over to meet us. Awesome !
A few pictures.

We stayed at the Game park where they filmed "Wild at Heart" before it became famous , have some amazing experiences , especially for my daughter , who played with Lion cubs , and cheetah , led a baby elephant , fed giraffe off our room balcony in the morning . Its as you say never forgotten :)

But you do have to be on your guard for human predators all the time !!

I’m turning green with envy here—- what amazing experiences.
I can hear lions most days though. Morrison’s carpark adjoins Paignton Zoo and the lions in there are pretty noisy ( not in the same league as seeing them in the wild though)

He should have stayed, they would have sparked up the barbie later....?

I visited the ADDO years ago.
We obviously couldn't enter in the VW beach buggy (free transport for 7 weeks, not complaining) so had to beg a lift with a lone tent camper.
The funniest sight I saw was a dung beetle rolling a ball of elephant shit twice its size..... Uphill.

My advice to you Mr lekkerSA is to light a campfire, then you'll be fine.....well that's what I was told by a bushman !!! Unfortunately, he didn't explain how to collect the firewood in the first place without becoming an easy target.

Excellent time of year (October) to view the wildlife through the dead bush, before the onset of the summer rains. We toured Namibia in a VW Kombi, during the same period, many years ago and have many lifelong memories. Learnt the art of doing a No.2, crouched with feet on a couple of stones - very effective, haha !!!
