We are due to go abroad and the country is not on a list that can be easily accessible at a cheap rate.

Roaming charges.

Cost.
Calling a UK number.£2 per minute.
Calling a Thai number.£2 per minute.
Texts to UK.35p per text.
Texting a Thai number.35p per text.
Receiving calls from any number.£1.25 per minute.
Receiving texts from any number.Free.
Using internet and data.£3 per MB.
Using voicemail.£2 per minute.

So my thought is that we take our mifi device with us, buy a local sim, unlimited 5g data for about £14 for 15 days and log our phones onto the mifi device and use that, will the wifi call work for incoming calls from the UK?

Is my logic flawed?

Check your mobile service provider terms and conditions.

Vodafone.

Roaming
11. The use of Wi-Fi Calling whilst roaming is prohibited and is not supported. However, in certain circumstances it may be possible to enable Wi-Fi Calling whilst abroad and where used additional charges will apply.

Thanks, just checked..

Using Wi-Fi Calling abroad

Wi-Fi Calling doesn't work while you're abroad. But you can still use it to call international or premium rate numbers from the UK.

How about a VPN?

I just put a local sim in my phone and use What's App for WiFi calling always works well. Only drawback is you can only call mobiles & to people that are on what's app, everyone we know or likely to want to call is.

Like Lenny suggests.
Use WhatsApp or any of the social chat apps that have live calls over internet.

I thought that Whatapp was linked to your sim?

We used to send a postcard. They were great, it had a picture on one side and spaces on the other side to write the address and a short message.
... and you'd often be back home before the card! :giggle:
