Why does it take so long

Can any of you guys tell me why the ferry to santander takes so long now
This might upset the apple cart we have both been double vacced but dont want the booster.my wifes mum had it and died within a fortnight.we want to go down through france to spain are they checking at the border that you have had it.we have family in spain feel like we are being blackmailed into it again.we were against being vacced full stop but had to so be able to see are granddaughter and daughter that live in spain aswel as my dad who has been there years.Any thoughts would be great please dont shout about the vacc
 
Portsmouth - Bilbao 27Mar 21:30 - 0800 (2d later)
i.e. 2 nights on the boat, leaving late evening and arriving early morning.

'Twas like that in 2009 (with P&O) and also 2018 (with BF)

Portsmouth - Santander 17Mar 22:15 - 0800 (2d later)

I haven't done that route (altho I have done S-P) and it doesn't seem unreasonable.

How long were you expecting it to take?

Perhaps the logic is that consideration is given to the time of departure and the arrival time. If the crossing was completed in less time, there could be both and increase in fuel costs (faster speed) as well as an inconvenient time of arrival. Have no idea if there is any truth in this, just my thinking ?
 
Don't understand, whats the problem ? The time spent on the ferry or that you haven't had the booster ?
If you had the first two jabs, I don't see why you would object to the booster
I'd doubt your mil died from having the booster, but stand to be corrected
 
DONE THE PORTSMOUTH TO SANTANDER MANY TIMES ALSO PLYMOUTH TO SANTANDER ONE 20HRS THE OTHER 18HRS.WAS JUST THINKING ARE THEY GOING A LONG WAY ROUND BECAUSE THE BAY CAN BE A BIT CHOPPY TO SAY THE LEAST.ON THE VACS FRONT SHE WAS AS FIT AS THE CAUSE BLOOD CLOT TO THE HEART AND WE KNOW A FEW PEOPLE THAT HAVE LUCKLY SURVIVED WITH BLOOD CLOTS ON LUNGS AND ELSE WHERE. I KNEW I SHOULD NOT OF STARTED THIS:censored::censored:

You want to go you have the booster or you wait and see if there is a relaxation of the rules or go ferry
Boat going faster is not going to help if it's a rough crossing
You could contract covid and be more ill because you didn't have the booster
At least now you can go as opposed to times in the last couple of years
 
They've rescheduled the ferries. Plymouth takes less time but I think the Portsmouth ferry docks on route to change staff.

I am going Plymouth Santander,,about 22 hours I think
BUSBY.
 
The Portsmouth to Santander ferry is new and slower, probably saves fuel as well.
Shorter crossings on the Pont Aven from Plymouth.

WORKED ALL THROUGH IT HAD IT CAN STILL GET IT. STILL WORKING WITH WORK MATES THAT ARE STILL GETTING IT BUT STAY Q DONT WANT TO LOSE WAGES.I DONT CARE HOW LONG IT TAKES TO GET THERE WAS JUST WONDERING WHY THIS TIME OF THE YEAR THERE IS ONE CROSSING THAT TAKES THAT LONG OR I AM MISSING SOME THING ON B/F s WEBSITE
 
I read somewhere that the new boats run on LP.... something or another as opposed to heavy oil to be greener so the price may be slower crossings

DO THEY GO A LONG WAY ROUND TO AVIOD THE ROUGH BITS THIS TIME OF YEAR.THEN FROM MARCH ONWARDS GO DIRECT THEN ALL THE CROSSING ARE UP FOR GRABS MANY THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.MY THINKING IS DRIVE DOWN THROUGH FRANCE WITHOUT THE BOOSTER AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.IF THERE IS CHECK THEN GO AND BUY ONE OR WHAT EVER IN FRANCE TO CROSS INTO SPAIN.I AM OK WITH GETTING THE BOOSTER BUT THE WIFE AFTER HOW HER MUM PASSED WAY AND WHAT THEY FOUND SHE IS REALLY WORRIED ABOUT HAVING IT WHICH I CAN UNDERSTAND.WE WERE IN SPAIN IN AUGS &SEPT THIS YEAR NEVER THIS WOULD BE A PROBLEM TO GO BACK

Plymouth is also much nearer to Santander for the sea journey which makes a big difference.
The Plymouth crossings have always been shorter but not quite as much as the current crossings.
 
From my experience of Covid, blood clots in the lung are far more likely with Covid than the vaccine.

I would be tempted to go through France, it’s also safer as if you use tunnel you don’t have to mix etc.

WHY CANT I BOOK A CROSSING SAY AT THE END OF THIS MONTH TO SANTANDER THAT IS NOT TWO DAYS ON A BOAT CANT FIND ONE ON B/Fs SITE:rolleyes:
 
Whatever your reasoning about vaccines you wont have nay say in the matter if you want to travel. (see below)

Also if you are driving through France without proof of booster (pass sanitaire or Covid Pass as its now called) you will not be allowed in Bars restros and other public places, (evebn some shops) and they do check.

Far easier and quicker and less stressful and more enjoyable to go by ship (but then as merchant seafarer I admit that I might be biased)
 
The ferry to santander is 1 day and 9 hours. It is not 2 DAYS ,
Leave on late monday night, get in early Weds morning.
The reason you cant go any quicker by sea, is because e above is the only option.

TRY AND GET A CROSSING IN TWO WEEKS TIME THAT ONLY TAKES 20hrs/18hrs I CANT FIND ONE SO MY Q WAS WHY IS IT NOW TAKING SO LONG I HAVE DONE ALL THE CROSSINGS MANY TIMES AND DRIVEN DOWN THROUGH FRANCE.THE BEST ST NAZAIRE TO GJION BY LD LINES £250 rt NO LONGER GOING. BUT UNTIL MARCH IT TAKES 32hrs.AFTER THAT BACK TO 20hrs/18hrs A CROSSING. ONLY TRYING TO WORK IT OUT WHY
 
Tuesday boat is short crossing. Thursday is long one

Can you change your text size on your device to make it easier for you? Not only are capitals accepted as shouting on forums, they're also very difficult to read so you might be missing out on replies that would help you :)
